I think you are doing a hell of a job, Kitch.

So with a real question for when you get time... where can I still get a nice pair of snowpants??? Relatively cheap...

I need to get a better pair myself. Asked for some for christmas, but got some spendy thermal underwear instead (gotta get out there and try those out).

Maybe we need a cold weather/hunting gear thread somewhere.

Happened to notice that Sears had a lot of their knock off Carhartt type work clothes on sale the other day. Including insulated bibs. Now that I think about it, I should have bought a pair for myself. Just remember, buy about 10 sizes too big so you can bend over or sit. :goofy:

Hey Kitch?

Where's my THG and laminated map, notebook and headlamp?

I put them all in a special place where they'd be safe.

Thanks

TJ Maxx is too far for me from here... So I took 3M's advice and hit up Fleet Farm. A lot huge just in case I grow anymore... (God I hope not...) Tons of the nice Carhart ones, the extreme cold weather stuff, like the suit I used to wear until it was shrunk in the dryer. Oh, yeah... and I got fatter.

I never thought about that... there is a Gander Mountain almost across the street from our Fleet Farm...

Zeph - the other place to go (next time you're in need of something) down that way if you want cheap, and don't mind second hand is Unique Thrift store right across from Burnsville Center (I think it used to be Frank's). HUGE selection and usually good quality stuff. There's one up on Rice St. in St. Paul, too but nowhere near as good.

Someone else mentioned Unique the other day... Must be an omen that I go there... Next to Kmart, or something, right? By the library?

dear Kitch...

is it true that if you leave your water running at a slow drip, it can prevent your pipes from freezing? our well was froze when we first moved in and the pipes froze once last year I think.

A little worried about the cold snap this weekend

# Keep garage doors closed if there are water supply lines in the garage.

# Open kitchen and bathroom cabinet doors to allow warmer air to circulate around the plumbing. Be sure to move any harmful cleaners and household chemicals up out of the reach of children.

# When the weather is very cold outside, let the cold water drip from the faucet served by exposed pipes. Running water through the pipe—even at a trickle—helps prevent pipes from freezing because the temperature of the water running through it is above freezing.

KITCH

If you turn on a faucet and only a trickle comes out, suspect a frozen pipe. Locate the suspected frozen area of the water pipe. Likely places include pipes running against exterior walls or where your water service enters your home through the foundation.

* Keep the faucet open. As you treat the frozen pipe and the frozen area begins to melt, water will begin to flow through the frozen area. Running water through the pipe will help melt more ice in the pipe.

    * Apply heat to the section of pipe using an electric heating pad wrapped around the pipe, an electric hair dryer, a portable space heater (kept away from flammable materials) or wrapping pipes with towels soaked in hot water. Do not use a blowtorch, kerosene or propane heater, charcoal stove or other open flame device. A blowtorch can make water in a frozen pipe boil and cause the pipe to explode. All open flames in homes present a serious fire danger, as well as a severe risk of exposure to lethal carbon monoxide.

    * Apply heat until full water pressure is restored. If you are unable to locate the frozen area, if the frozen area is not accessible or if you can not thaw the pipe, call a licensed plumber.

    * Check all other faucets in your home to find out if you have additional frozen pipes. If one pipe freezes, others may freeze, too.

I actually was down in the right part of the park, and was running towards the spot. I ended up running past it into the woods a bit further, but I was lining up with the bridge on there. After a bit I just started to go over to where everyone else was, because people seemed sure it was over there. Oh well, didn't matter anyways because it had been gone before the clue came out.

One of my daughters figured out the clue to mean the bridge on a play set. Unfortunately it was a play set on the other side of the park. :sheepish:

But it keeps my record of being in the wrong park/part of the park intact! You have to think outside the box ya know! :pbpt:

I have a question...everytime you start a new thread do you have to pay or is it just to have the Cooler Crew Refugee Camp you have to pay $20 or what ever and then you can have as many folders as you want? i don't get it.
Thu, 02/01/2007 - 6:03 PM Permalink

We only pay for the main parent folder.

Cm has it right. $20 for the whole cooler. If you want your own folder, with as many sub folders and discussions as you want, OUTSIDE the cooler, you can pay $20 for that.

Cold weather is optimal for fireworks viewing because there is less humidity, which creates smoke around the fireworks,
