Angie Johnson and Ann Miller found the 2020 Harvest Fall Medallion under a stone in Riverview Park, on Thursday, Oct. 1.
The pair had a successful outing on their lunch break Thursday, earning them their third win in the Harvest Hunt competition.
“Luckily we found it on the second clue, it usually takes us three clues,” said Johnson.
The pair honed in on one part of the second clue in particular: “I sea a house. Who could that bee? Difficult to see. I think it says stne?”
Johnson said she likes to think about all possible meanings of the words in each clue, using google to help find anything she might miss. The team realized that “stne” could mean “St. NE”. So when they noticed the road sign 1st St. NE, they followed it all the way into Riverview Park. Riverview Park is the newest park in Belle Plaine, located in the Provence Housing area.
Once Johnson and Miller arrived, they saw a large boulder and realized that “stne” could also mean “stone,” and that’s exactly where they looked.
“Angie’s fingers found it under the boulder,” said Miller.
Clue writer Bill Kruschke said that was a happy accident, and that he did not intend for “stne” to be interpreted as stone, but rather “St. NE”.
Regardless, Johnson and Miller are this year’s winners, earning $100 in prize money.
“It’s a lot of fun for us. It’s more for the bragging rights than for the money,” said Johnson.
