Michael Phelps may have won 23 Olympic gold medals, but the only gold that counts in Jordan is the Heimatfest medallion. This year the gold was found by local couple Rachel and Landon Larivee, who found the medallion under a pine tree next to the playground at Jordan Middle School on Monday.
The Larivees have been searching for the medallion the past couple of years, but came up empty. A couple of years ago Landon missed the medallion when he walked right past the hiding spot by the warming shelter at Lagoon Park. Last year, Rachel and he read all of the clues but were not even close to the final spot.
This year was different.
“We read the clues and we heard something in it about a track so first we went down to the high school and walked around the track there and there was stuff about pine trees so we were looking under all the trees there and came up with nothing,” Landon said. “We thought we should come over and check the other track because the color of the building was the right color for the clues too.”
As they were crossing the street, they noticed the pine trees by the school and thought that it could be the perfect hiding spot. Rachel and Landon picked a tree to search, and Landon was the lucky one.
“It feels good, it feels worthwhile. You think about it and read the clues and I was at work all day pondering over them, and to go out and look for it and come up with something is really cool,” Landon said.
