Litchfield’s 58th Watercade celebration kicks off this week, and it’s a perfect reminder of all that our community has to offer.
Watercade brings out the best in people, putting on display hometown camaraderie and pride. It’s a thrill to see the many smiles on the faces of both adults and children as they watch the Little Crow Water Ski Team perform on Lake Ripley or clap for candidates vying to become the next Miss Litchfield.
Let’s not forget, too, that Watercade isn’t only a celebration for area residents. Watercade is a showcase for visitors, who attend Watercade each year and leave our community filled with words of praise.
We are especially proud to have Sparboe Farms named as this year’s grand marshal. What a tremendous honor, as the company has done so much for Litchfield — not to mention the breakfast table!
The timing of Sparboe’s selection couldn’t be better, as it is the company’s 60th anniversary, and the company is in the midst of an expansion project at its Prairie Complex just east of Litchfield. We are appreciative of Sparboe’s decision to invest in this community, and honoring the company as grand marshal is a wonderful token of this community’s gratitude.
“The community has been very supportive of Sparboe over the years, and we’re proud to be residents and have our corporate offices in Litchfield,” Sparboe Farms President Beth Schnell said in a recent interview. “It’s really a wonderful community.”
We couldn’t agree more, Beth.
Sparboe’s selection speaks highly of the Watercade Committee, which picks a grand marshal each year. The committee consists entirely of volunteers, people who devote their precious time to the cause of making Litchfield a better place. They include Sue Koll, Jodi Schons, Nancy McGraw, Mary Hansen, Mitch Aanden, Bridget Anderson, Todd Anderson, Jennifer Ball, Dr. Jennifer Fairbanks, Joel Green, Melody Hoffman, Justin Klinghagen, Amie McGraw, Lesli Mueller, John Mueller, Rebecca Rue and Ryan Wendlandt.
If you see one of these volunteers at this year’s event, take the time to thank them for all their hard work. Let’s make this another great celebration — one steeped in community pride and dedication.
