Historic main street: one of the reasons I keep coming back

Submitted by Joe Medallion (not verified) on

I was just in Litchfield for the week of July 4 and again for the Watercade parade. I have been coming to Litchfield since I was a child and have seen many changes to main street over the years. This time out, seeing the changes, such as the new businesses that have opened and hearing that more businesses and restorations are in the works, is really exciting.

Litchfield’s main street has always been lined with buildings having historically significance to its past, and quite frankly has always been the core of the community. Thank you to the individuals opening these businesses and preserving the buildings as it restores the historic charm to the town.

As a resident of one of the small “river towns” along the St. Croix River between Stillwater and Afton, I enjoy spending time walking along their preserved, historic main streets. I think that small towns with these preserved main streets show pride in their history and are a draw for people from all over.

People like myself enjoy the restaurants, lodging, unique shopping and hearing stories from people about the history of their town. I would hope Litchfield would embrace tourism in their town as it brings money into their community and helps to put Litchfield on the map as a great place to visit.

One of the definitions of tourism is “the activity or practice of touring, especially for pleasure.” This is one of the reasons I keep coming back to Litchfield.
