Arlo likes string cheese and peanut butter, and this might be the weekend for the 3-year-old Goldendoodle from Moundsview to get a little extra of each.
On Saturday, Arlo was crowned the St. Paul Winter Carnival’s Canine-King Boreas after besting some 600 other dogs in an online voting competition. Owners Greg and Joanna Zimny said Arlo likes agility training almost as much as he likes attention.
The tiara for Canine-Queen of Snows went to Geneva, a 10.5-year-old Bernese Mountain Dog owned by Laura Cloose of Rosemount. The title may be bittersweet for Cloose; Geneva has mass-cell tumors and has an estimated six months to live.
Arlo and Geneva were crowned at Doggie Depot, an all-things-dog fair at Union Depot in downtown St. Paul. An estimated 317,000 votes were cast in the competition for “doggy royalty.”
