A new splash pad in Litchfield's Legion Memorial Park could be ready in time for Watercade weekend.
The water play area that's being constructed near the shores of Lake Ripley was one of two capital projects the Litchfield City Council discussed at its Feb. 20 meeting.
After hearing from representatives of the Litchfield Rotary Club, which is raising money for the splash pad, the council agreed to add a small addition to the water feature to accommodate water cannon toys and a rock border.
The Litchfield Rotary has been successful in raising most of its initial commitment of $125,000 and plans to raise $25,000 more with a paver-stone project.
Mayor Keith Johnson thanked the Rotarians for their work and said that, hopefully, the facility will be ready for use by Watercade weekend in July.
IN OTHER BUSINESS:
- The council set a public hearing for 5:30 p.m. April 16 to consider the annexation of 40 acres of property owned by Doering Land Company LLC (Ray, Michael and Eric Doering,) east of Prairie Park. The future use of the property is yet to be determined.
- The council re-appointed Shannon Asmus and Larry Dahl to the city Planning Commission.
