1st clue is up.

CLUE # 1

Looping around and back again,

It's time for the 2009 search to begin.

Gather your team, it's time to play.

Remember on public land you must stay!

No, the park and rec area on the city's website leaves much to the imagination. I don't really know why, budgets, neglect, laziness?

I have what I feel to be a complete list.

North St. Paul Parks

Casey Lakes Park 17th Ave. and Dianne St.

Cannon Park Highway 36 and Margaret St.

Colby Hills 7th St. and Belmont Ave.

Country Club Park Eldridge Ave.

Dorothy Park Lake Blvd. and Poplar Ave.

Franklyn Park 1st Street and Seppala Dr.

Hause Park 4th Ave and Charles St.

McKnight Field Highway 36 and McKnight Road

Northwood Park 1st St. and Northwood Dr.

Polar Park Shawnee Dr. and 2nd St.

Silver Lake Park 19th Ave. and Lake Ave.

Southwood Park Charles Dt. and Belmont Lane

Tower Park 13th Ave. and 2nd St.

Rotary Park Charles and Centennial Dr.

I also have a registered button, if anyone finds it and doesn't have one, let me know.

I have a couple good ideas on parks to check, hopefully I'll get some time tonight.

I just remade the list, noting a few things.

Park Location Notes
Casey Lakes Park 17th Ave. and Dianne St. Large park, many facilities. 2003 Medallion Spot
Cannon Park Highway 36 and Margaret St. Presumed demolished with Hwy 36 construction
Colby Hills 7th St. and Belmont Ave. Small park, tot lot, house and ice rink across street
Country Club Park Eldridge Ave. No Signage to indicate it's a park (very Small), looks like a neighbor's side yard
Dorothy Park Lake Blvd. and Poplar Ave. Playground equipment, blink and you'll miss it park
Environmental Learning Center 13th Ave. & McKnight Road Run off Pond, Park Benches
Franklyn Park 1st Street and Seppala Dr. Confusing location, no signage and actual areas could be any park looking space along the downtown area, probably the area used for the 2004 Medallion
Hause Park 4th Ave and Charles St. Ice rinks, Tot Lot, warming house, 2008 Medallion Spot
McKnight Field Highway 36 and McKnight Road Ballfields, Tennis, some picnic areas, a shelter by the High School and 2005 Medallion Spot.
Northwood Park 1st St. and Northwood Dr. Tot Lot, Ice Rinks, Water Tower, Ballfield
Polar Park Shawnee Dr. and 2nd St. Nestled between Houses and backyards, Tot Lot and Ice Rink
Rotary Park Charles and Centennial Dr. Presumed demolished with Hwy 36 Construction, parts might remain along gateway trail, I believe the Rotary Park sign was changed to say "Welcome to North St. Paul" presumably for gateway trail users.
Silver Lake Park 19th Ave. and Lake Ave. Extends along south end of Silver Lake, Tot lot, fishing pier, trail. 2006 Medallion Spot
Snowman Highway 36 & Margaret Street Large Stucco Snowman, paved sidewalk, you would be hard pressed to miss this spot. 2007 Medallion Spot.
Southwood Park Charles Dt. and Belmont Lane Mostly a Nature Preserve, Trails, Woods, Viewing platform on south end of park
Tower Park 13th Ave. and 2nd St. Water Tower, Tot Lot, Picnic Tables
Urban Ecology Center McKnight and Gateway Trail Used to be called Sod Farm Park due to an old sod farm being here. Marsh area, Trails, Viewing platform and connected to gateway trail. Lots of area here
Veteran's Park 7th Ave. & Henry Street I believe they moved the Cannon from Cannon Park to this location, Flagpoles and Veteran Memorials, connected to North St. Paul History Museum

looping around should be a complete circle

reminds me of a nine or something

a sign near by that the lights go around one way and then reverse back the other. or something on the playground the goes around one way and then the other like a tire swing.

Merry go round?
Mon, 02/09/2009 - 10:38 AM Permalink
mucluck

The best approach to NSP is just go check the parks under this and that....not that many parks

mrmnmikey

Just what I did today for a bit. Tower has 2 merry go rounds. Not many hiding places though. I did notice the logo on the med is on the water tower as well.

Polar has one merry go round. If it's there we should get a lot of Indian references because of the street names around there.

Gather your team, it's time to play makes me think it has ball fields. although it could just mean a play area for kids.

The place formerly known as Rotary looks totally different now. It is still kind of a park there along the trail. Helen St ends and theres a pedestrian bridge a little to the west. Google maps is not showing it correctly.

Ball fields and "looping" trail at Casey Lake.

Looping

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Looping may refer to:

* in computer programming, control loops including the main event loop

    * in film production, automated dialogue replacement

    * in music, music loop.

    * in aviation, performing a loop as an aerobatic maneuver

    * a repeating drawings in an animated cartoon

    * a foreign translation for the animated TV series TaleSpin.

Just to get cha in a "tailspin"

Whats the point of having a hunt if you leave the thing in broad daylight. They really need to hide them a smidgen harder.
Mon, 02/09/2009 - 2:17 PM Permalink
KC0GRN

Actually they haven't mentioned how it was hidden yet. Perhaps someone just got really lucky.

Granted North St. Paul has a history of hidding it a bit easy.

I keep saying one of these years I just have to take the monday off and go look. Of course now that the cluewriter has this embarrasment, it'll probably be a long hunt next year.

They are making up for the fact last year sucked and was never found!
Mon, 02/09/2009 - 2:51 PM Permalink
KC0GRN

Actually that was 2 years ago. Last years was found in Hause Park on the morning of the 2nd clue.

2007 was the year of the snowman incident.

BTW, I was glad it was at Casey Park this year, secretly it was the park I wanted to check out. For Three main reasons.

1. The clue mentioned looping back. The medallion was hidden in Casey Park in 2003, thus they looped back to hide it in that park again. (On a personal note, this might mean that the cluewriter is either the same person, or has notes from previous hunts, kind of nice to know).

2. The clue mentions teams, which obviously made me think of sports fields, either baseball of hockey. Casey Lake has ballfields.

3. If the first reference of looped back wasn't refering to the previous hide, it might have been the trail loop in the park. Or, maybe the looped back had a double meaning. I guess we won't know unless the clue explanations are published.

So, at least I had the right park in mind regarding the clue

We had our registered button and had already looked at McKnight fields and Tower park  ....

we also went with the "loop around" to mean hidden in a park were it was before and of course "gather your team" we thought of baseball/softball and off we went to McKnight fields....oh well.....next year :pbpt:
