The Georgia Satellites will headline Watercade street dance July 8.

The Georgia Satellites will headline the Watercade Street Dance in July, the Litchfield Watercade board announced.

A Southern rock band from Atlanta, the Georgia Satellites will perform on stage Saturday, July 8, in the parking lot north of Litchfield Civic Arena. Gates will open at 7:30 p.m., and the street dance will begin at 8 p.m.

After nearly a 20-year break, Watercade revived its street dance in 2016 by bringing in The Kentucky Headhunters.

“The support for last year’s street dance was more than we could have hoped,” Litchfield Watercade chairperson Lyle Diekmann said. “With that in mind, the board felt motivated to start a new tradition for our 61st Watercade celebration. We are excited to bring a national act like The Georgia Satellites to Litchfield.”

The Georgia Satellites are best known for their 1986 hit “Keep Your Hands to Yourself,” which peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100. “Battleship Chains” – another song from their debut album – reached No. 86 on the charts.

The band also recorded a cover of The Swinging Blue Jeans’ 1964 hit “Hippy Hippy Shake” that reached No. 45 on the Billboard charts in 1988.

The Georgia Satellites will be preceded on stage by a pair of area bands – “Flathead” and “Crimson Edge.”

Tickets will be $15 at the gate. A limited number of advance tickets can be purchased for $12 at Litchfield American Legion Post 104 and Eagles Aerie and Auxiliary 3424.
