2016 Watercade Button

Orange, yellow and blue fireworks explode in the darkening summer sky above the waters of Lake Ripley.

A beach-goer sits on the beach with their toes in the sand watching the glorious display light up the sky.

Folks attending Litchfield Watercade events this summer will see this image pinned on to people’s shirts — as the design was selected to appear on the official 60th annual Litchfield Watercade pin.

The button was designed by Litchfield Middle School eighth-grader Megan Nelson. Each year, eighth-graders compete for the chance to have their artwork featured on the button.

Once the submissions were narrowed down to the top dozen or two-dozen button designs, Watercade committee members selected their favorite three designs. The public then voted for their favorite button design at the Litchfield Chamber of Commerce’s 2016 Business & Community Showcase in May.

Buttons, which help fund Watercade events and promote the annual community celebration, can be purchased for $4 from a variety of businesses throughout Litchfield, including the Independent Review, as well as from any of the nine Miss Litchfield candidates.

Those who purchase a button will have the chance to win $100. Three button numbers will be drawn at the end of Watercade, and the winning numbers will be announced at coronation.
