Kentucky Headhunters plan to perform at Watercade on July 9.

A new event is coming to Watercade this year to help mark the celebration’s 60th anniversary.

A street dance featuring the four-member band Kentucky Headhunters is expected to headline the July 9 event at the Litchfield Civic Arena parking lot.

Best known for its 1989 debut album, “Pickin’ On Nashville,” the group won a Grammy Award in 1990 for best country performance. Its most recent album, “Meet Me in Bluesland,” was released in 2015.

“This year, in response to the many wishes of many in our community, we have spent months planning for a street event,” Justin Klinghagen, Litchfield Watercade chairman, wrote in a April 4 letter to City Council.

Event organizers also plan to ask Litchfield’s past Watercade royalty, grand marshals, Aquatenial Award recipients and others to attend the dance.

Watercade runs from July 7 to 10. For more information, visit the festival’s website at www.watercade.com.
