Although the St. Paul Winter Carnival doesn’t start until the end of January, fans of the annual celebration can get a taste Saturday, when Northern Soda Co. releases its Winter Carnival-themed soda, Minnesota Birch Beer.
Northern Soda partnered with the carnival for the soda, which features a pre-1900s recipe, but is called “difficult to describe”: “It is definitely not root beer and it’s not a cream soda, however it is certainly part of the family.”
Winter Carnival characters, including members of the Royal Family, Vulcan Krewe and Klondike Kates, will be at a curbside pickup event from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 18, at Northern Soda’s taproom (3747 N. Dunlap St., Arden Hills). Orders for four-packs of Minnesota Birch Beer should be placed before pickup at northernsoda.com/shop-soda. The soda will also be for sale at select retail locations starting Saturday.
