2023 Twin Ports Winterfest Medallion Hunt

This clue simply points out that it is 100 or so feet from a fence. Admittedly there are tens of thousands of fences in the Twin Ports area. This clue refers to a two-panel fence located just off of Regent Street at Washington Square Park in Duluth. The medallion was hidden approximately 12o feet south of it.

This clue refers to a “play compass” that is located inside the paly area at Washington Square Park. It is located to the left of the steering wheel in the permanent play vehicle that is there. The compass points to the general location of where the medallion is hidden

This clue refers to the Tic-Tac-Toe game at the Washington Square playground and the “hugs and kisses” – literally the “x’s and o’s”

This clue required some research about the park and the Lakeside neighborhood of Duluth. Before it was annexed by the City of Duluth, the Lakeside area was known as “New London”

A very difficult clue to decipher – but was correctly interpreted by the Winner Julie Johnson. It basically says ignore all the big words in this clue and refine one that you already know but has an additional meaning. That word is “Generally” – refined to General – as in General George Washington

This is a clue directly referencing all the different varieties of apple trees planted at Washington Square Park. In fact, one of the varieties – ZESTAR is about 25 feet from the medallion which explains the “Zest” in the clue

This clue calls attention to the “BIG BELLY” garbage compactors that are in the playground area of Washington Square Park and are about 200 feet away from the medallion. Obviously a big belly is not petite

The last line here is key. Washington Square Park is located right off of Superior Street

The medallion is in Duluth

Two keywords in this difficult clue. The first was the word “shape” which loosely refers to Washington “Square”. The second key word is star which completes our “Zest” from a previous clue. Zestar is a breed of apple tree labeled and located close by

The “images” that are referenced here are the thousands of pictures of George Washington we’ve seen in our lifetime. And if you payed attention in History class, you would know that our first president lived and is buried at a place called “Mount” Vernon

Many of the Park that are tagged with “Square” in Duluth were named after parks that already existed in London, England. However, Washington Square Park in Duluth was named after a park of the same name in Philadelphia.

This clue refers to George Washington. It also mentions “valley” and “forge” which was the encampment site of the Continental Army in the Revolutionary War led by General George Washington

This clue solidified that it is indeed President George Washington – and hence Washington Square Park that medallion is hidden. It also points out that the disc will be hidden at least ten feet away from any of the fruit trees planted at the location
