Families and friends found fun Friday night on the sands of Lake Ripley during the annual Watercade beach party.
A sand sculpture contest kicked off the evening with nine groups competing to shape sculptures such as mermaids, anchors and sunken ships out of sand. The group named “Optimus Primus” — consisting of Luke and Jennifer Primus of Hutchinson, along with their children, 17-year-old Lily and 12-year-old Luke — won first place in the 13 and older age group with their sunken ship sculpture.
12-year-old Julia Richardson and 9-year-old Dawson Richardson took first place in the 12 and younger age group with their sand sculpture of the Watercade logo’s anchor. 2013-2014 Miss Litchfield Kristen Klaben, princess Kate Carlson and princess Paige Dilley judged the sand sculptures and selected the winners.
KLFD AM 1410 also sponsored games such as a ring toss and hula hoop contest, and introduced this year’s Miss Litchfield candidates. The night concluded with a firework display over Lake Ripley.
