2022 South St. Paul Trail Walk Hunt - Week 6

As opposed to being hidden on a trail or near the community center, our prize is hidden in a park: "Cans" refers to the small walking path in the park.

References to Metzen Realty, this hunt's sponsor, and houses, indicates the park is in a residential area. The medallion is "covered" by wood chips

This clue refers to Washignton Irving's 1819 short story "Rip Van Winkle". In the story, a man takes a 20-year "nap" after bowling with some ghostly men in the Catskills Mountains. These men, of the ship the "Half Moon", are rumored to bowl in the mountains and the "thunderclaps" heard by the villagers below are the sounds of the pins being knocked down. In our hunt, we have hidden the treasure right above Concord Lanes. And instead of the sound coming from above, we hint that sound instead should be coming from below, revealing Grandview Park as our hiding spot.

This clue refers to St. Stefan Romanian Orthodox Church located right next to Grandview Park. The land the church is located on was partially donated by the city to a group of Romanian immigrants who had arrived in South St. Paul around the turn of the century. Emil Neagoe was one of the leaders of the project and designed the church in the Byzantine (busy) style. Eventually the queen of Romania visited the community in 1926 after the church had been completed.

"View" refers to Grandview Park. Don't look by the edge; instead look underneath the bench dedicated to "The Hammer" and you will find the medallion concealed by woodchips.
