Maplewood father-daughter win medallion hunt

Submitted by Administrator on

ST. PAUL, Minn.—A father and daughter from Maplewood are the winners of the 2009 St. Paul Pioneer Press Treasure Hunt.

Joe Horwath and his 21-year-old daughter, Jessica, found the medallion in Swede Hollow Park at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday.

The Horwaths brought the medallion and 11 days worth of clues to the newspaper. Jessica also had a registered Winter Carnival button, so the two will get $10,000 in prize money, along with $1,200 good toward groceries from Cub Foods.

The father-daughter team found the medallion on the 11th day of the 12-day annual hunt.

It was the Horwaths’ first day out looking with tools. They had been searching about an hour when the prize floated to the surface of a creek that runs in the park.
