The Winter Carnival’s Snow Sculpting Competition is back on, thanks to a $10,000 donation by the Vulcans, carnival officials announced today.

The event, which was axed last week because of a lack of funding, will be held at the State Fairgrounds near the intersection of Cooper Street and Randall Avenue.

Snow block building will begin Sunday at 10 a.m.

‘The Vulcans started this event for Winter Carnival years ago and will provide all the labor to stage the blocks,’ said Kate Kelly, president of the Saint Paul Festival & Heritage Foundation, which runs the carnival. ‘Leave it to the Vulcs to get it done in the eleventh hour.’

‘We believe that it was important for this signature event of the Winter Carnival to take place,’ said Jeff Hunter, president of Fire and Brimstone. ‘The entire Vulcan Organization just thought it was the right thing to do.’
