Coon Rapids Snowflake Days, Fifty years of winter celebration and cheer ,
Through the weather we gather to keep us in gear;
As you search for the prize keep in mind and first hand,
On city property you will find the medallion on land.

The official meaning of the clue.

Informational. This was my first time hiding the medallion and creating the clues. I was not really sure how easy or tough to make it, but was hoping to make the hunt last two weeks if possible. It came pretty close.

As you narrow your search steer clear of windbags,
Sled pulling dogs by themselves should raise lots of flags;
It’s somewhere in the city it so search high and low,
Away from the red coats with stripes you should go

The official meaning of the clue.

Was looking to narrow the search area some, windbags (tornadoes), sled pulling dogs (Huskies)and red coats with stripes (red coats with black stripes was the dictionary description I found for Bengals)- Intention was to drive you away from these borders)

Our mascot Rocky has hidden the jewel,
He is proud of his stash and the place he says ”cool”;
So out in the city the people will roam,
In search of the treasure not far from their home.

The official meaning of the clue.

A reference to Coon Hollow which is few blocks south of the final location and I had to get Rocky in the hunt.

To find this treasure by stilts you might go;
Don’t get frustrated, discouraged or blue,

The official meaning of the clue.

Avocet which ended up being the closest street to the medallion is a member of the Stilt family of birds.

Be courteous and kind should most times be your rule,
Go west of the place that takes some to school;
Some search for treasure, some just because,
When you are on the right path you may hear a buzz.

The official meaning of the clue.

This is tough- the place that takes some to school was a reference to University Ave. (Directional Clue) The buzz is in reference to the Boulevard Buzz newsletter that was distributed to businesses some years back updating people on the redevelopment news on Coon Rapids Boulevard. I guess it did not get read by many.

Walk softly and swift, please don’t be to loud,
Just up the street from where Wayne would be proud;
On patience and thought, no luck pin your hope,
Just look to the east with a gamma ray telescope.

The official meaning of the clue.

line one was in reference to a senior living building near by, which is off of 99th Ave. (Gretzky) I know that is impossible. I thought "the great one" here I thought would be too early.

The last line refers to the Energetic Gamma Ray Experiment Telescope. (EGRET for short) which came up when I Googled Egret.

Sorry I couldn't pass it up.

Cold weather we have had , some say their fill,
Don’t let your face furrow, rise up from the chill;
Marquis John says “be hearty, be strong and be tough” ,
Beats growing up in the desert, now that could be rough.

The official meaning of the clue.

Furrow is another word for hollow, rise up from the coon hollow.

A plant that grows in the desert is a Zilla which is the street on the other side of the property from Avocet.

By a river, a park or next to a mansion by fate,
Walk briskly to make sure you do not arrive late;
So venture out carefully and your car full of gas,
Keep yourself healthy and avoid the bypass.

The official meaning of the clue.

The first line refers to Park River Estates which is the nursing home just to the west of the location. The bypass is in reference to what I always knew as the East River Road Bypass, the little short cut through to East River Road just up the street.

For her years on the commission we all give our thanks,
Her commitment, her time, she was the top of the ranks;
Her love for her city was right on the mark,
Mary Lou would have told you this year it is not in a park.

The official meaning of the clue.

his one is emotional. I wrote this clue in honor of Mary Lou Hecht, a member of our Park and Rec. Commission for 37 years. She passed away on Jan. 13th after I had written the clue. I told her daughter Sue that I wrote a clue referencing her mother and how she felt about me keeping it in here. She said absolutely and that her mom would have loved it. Mary Lou we miss you.

It followed the Dam and the tower by golly,
But to go back too far would bring you to folly,
Two score and a half is the new key to your search,
No Riverdale , C.R.I.C. nor barely a church.

The official meaning of the clue.

In honor of it being the 50th Anniversary of Snowflake Days in Coon Rapids this is the point in the hunt where we went back two score and a half.(50 years).

Medallion hunts have existed near a century or more,
One winner a year, not two, three, not four;
Hope you can join us, come along for the ride,
Your goal will be clearer with Matt and James as your guide.

The official meaning of the clue.

Near a Century refers to the numerical street nearest the site ( 100th Ave. ) The final line refers to the first doctors at the old Coon Rapids Clinic- Dr. Matt Plasha and Dr. James Sipe.

The medallions still lost and maybe all for the better,
It’s like the sands in time as you wait for a letter;
Press on with your search but take a break from your mining,
Perhaps rest your feet and enjoy some fine dining.

The official meaning of the clue.

This clue refers back 50 years (sands in time) and the old post office a block away. The fine dining refers to the Sportsmen's Club which back in this era was a nice place to go for dinner and was just across Avocet from the location.

When you get near the place think of its rank,
The place it’s been deposited may have been sank:
Keep on with your quest though your mind might be mush,
On this day of the week you know there might be a rush.

The official meaning of the clue.

This is the one that brought people to the right vicinity. It is a reference to the 1st Bank of Coon Rapids property, as best I could determine the medallion was near the exit of the drive through. Hats off to the person with the headlamp digging in the snow on Friday night. Your were not far away.

If you chip a bicuspid because of the cold,
A trip to Dwain or Kenji can fix it were told:
Dress back up in your layers- there is no time to rest,
Done with your visit? Then head west by northwest.

The official meaning of the clue.

This was pretty easy if you have lived here awhile. Dr. Dwain Breitbach and Dr. Kenji Horita were dentists at the old Coon Rapids Clinic. The direction from there was according to my best reading of a compass and brought you across the now vacant lot toward Avocet.

From a bird in the stilt family up on a sign,
To a century mark in a perpendicular line;
Over the bank and 20 yards in the least,
To get what you seek travel South by Southeast.
