2020 St. Paul Winter Carnival buttons unveiled

The designs for the four 2020 St. Paul Winter Carnival buttons were unveiled Saturday. They include King Boreas and Vulcanus Rex playing hockey, curling in front of Landmark Center, a fisherman ice fishing with the St. Paul city skyline in the background and an outline of the state of Minnesota with winter icons such as a mitten and an ice skate.

The buttons were designed by Edina artist Cindy Lindgren and cost $5 for one and $19 for the collector’s pack of all four images. They’re available at Cub Foods, Spire Credit Union locations, select retailers and on the Winter Carnival website.

Each souvenir button is attached to a card that includes the legend behind the Winter Carnival, a map and information on main attractions, activities and new events. The button card has a form to fill out to win prizes and experiences, including the chance to escort the pig onto the field at an upcoming St. Paul Saints game, a ride on the Vulcans’ firetruck for 20 people, Winter Carnival merchandise, gift cards and a cash prize. The button card also has coupons.

The sale of the commemorative buttons is the largest fundraiser for the Saint Paul Festival and Heritage Foundation, the organization that manages and produces the St. Paul Winter Carnival.

The 134th St. Paul Winter Carnival will Jan. 23-Feb. 2. Most of the events take place in downtown in and around Rice Park and Landmark Center at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds.
