Vulcanus Rex’s triumph over King Boreas seemed a bit tenuous on Saturday night given arctic temperatures in downtown St. Paul, but tradition is tradition.

The Vulcan Victory Torchlight Parade marched Saturday from West Seventh Street through downtown St. Paul into Rice Park, where Winter Carnival fans gathered to see Vulcanus Rex overthrow King Boreas to usher in spring.

Rex’s triumph seemed a bit tenuous given arctic temperatures in downtown St. Paul … but tradition is tradition!
