Downtown St. Paul ice rink to remain open for the Winter Carnival

Submitted by Administrator on

Downtown St. Paul’s ice rink will stick around until Feb. 4, allowing the popular attraction to overlap with the St. Paul Winter Carnival.

The city has extended the Wells Fargo WinterSkate for an additional two weeks because of a 100 percent increase in attendance from last year, officials announced today. The rink was originally supposed to close Jan. 17, more than a week before the Jan. 26 onset of the 10-day carnival.

Recent mild temperatures will have no bearing on the ice rink, which is mechanically chilled. From Jan. 17 to Feb. 4, free open skating will be 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on weekends. Skate rental is $2.

The rink is located at Fifth and Market streets, adjacent to Landmark Center. Main sponsors are the Capital City Partnership, the City of St. Paul and Wells Fargo.
