2007 Winter Carnival snow sculpting awards announced

The Minnesota State Snow Sculpting Competition featured artists creating pieces from blocks of snow on Harriet Island. Teams competed for a chance to compete in nationals in Lake Geneva, Wis.

1st Place – $1,200 and a $500 honorarium to attend the National Snow Sculpting Competition the following year – “Dragons” by Kelley Casey (Roseville), Paul Diekoff Jr. (Shoreview) and David White (Elk River)

2nd Place – $600, eligibility to enter the National Snow Sculpting Competition. – “Dreaming of Summer” by Jim Baller (Maple Plaine), Bob Baller (Afton) and Mike Baller (Saint Paul)

3rd Place – $300 – “Raccoons in the Trash” by Jonathan Baller (Stillwater), Curt Cook (Cottage Grove) and Joseph Hauwiller (Eden Prairie)

Artist Choice Award – “White Elephant” by Pat Mogren (Maplewood), Dan Barrett (Minneapolis) and Bill Foley (Mahtomedi).

People’s Choice Award – “White Elephant” by Pat Mogren (Maplewood), Dan Barrett (Minneapolis) and Bill Foley (Mahtomedi).

Vulcan’s Choice Award – “Boreas in July” by Steve Robinson residency not available), Matt Bliss (Minneapolis) and Claire McDonough (residency not available).
