Blues fest planned for St. Paul Winter Carnival

ST. PAUL, Minn.—The 2009 St. Paul Winter Carnival will have a touch of the blues.

The first ever Winter Carnival Blues Festival is scheduled for Jan. 23 at the Legendary Roy Wilkins Auditorium.

Seven acts will perform on two stages. The main stage will feature Chicago bluesman Maurice John Vaughn, saxophonist Eddie Shaw and Twin Cities harmonica player Big George Jackson.

The Winter Carnival’s Klondike Kates, who are promoting their new CD, also will perform on the main stage.

Spider John Koerner and Nikki and The RueMates are among performers on the acoustic stage.

Tickets went on sale Friday and are available at the Roy Wilkins Auditorium box office, all Ticketmaster locations, by phone and online at http://www.ticketmaster.com.
