Attention treasure hunters: The 2009 Stillwater Lumberjack Days buttons are on sale.
This year’s button, designed by artist Stephen Whetstine, depicts a lumberjack riding a log during the spring drive to the St. Croix Boom. The lumberjack’s shirt features the initials “R.T.” in honor of Robert “Bob” Thompson, who died April 28. Thompson, the longtime owner of Thompson Hardware, helped revive Lumberjack Days in the late 1960s.
To collect the entire $1,000 prize in the Lumberjack Days treasure hunt, the finder must wear a button.
The first clue will be read at the Washington County Historic Courthouse, 101 W. Pine St., during the talent show July 22. The second and third clues will be read at the U.S. Bank Plaza in downtown Stillwater at 3 p.m. July 23 and July 24; the fourth clue, if necessary, will be read at the Warden’s House Museum, 602 N. Main St., at 3 p.m. July 25.
Buttons can be purchased for $3 at the Warden’s House Museum, the Greater Stillwater Chamber of Commerce and Stillwater City Hall. Proceeds go to the Washington County Historical Society.
Lumberjack Days will be July 23-26.
