Get your own (free) tiny torch for St. Paul’s Winter Carnival Torchlight Parade

Are you headed to the Torchlight Parade on Saturday night — the (in our humble opinion) coolest parade of the Coolest Celebration on Earth?

It’s the one held after sunset, and features those stories-high flames shooting from giant propane burners that light up the entire St. Paul street — and warm it, too.

You can wave your own virtual torch. Just search for the “Pioneer Press Treasure Hunt” in your Android or Apple app stores, download it and look for the “Vulcan Torch” icon in the corner. Fire it up, and you can hold up your tiny torch when the Vulcans pass in the parade.

The night ends with the Overthrow of King Boreas by the Vulcans and fireworks in Rice Park, which is also pretty cool.

The 5:30 p.m. parade starts at Fifth and Wacouta streets, travels westbound on Fifth, to Washington Street to Fourth Street, and ends at St. Peter Street in Rice Park.
