Last year was so much fun, we’re doing it again!
In celebration of this year’s Love Your Melon Presents Pioneer Press Treasure Hunt, we have partnered again with Bad Weather Brewing to make the Pioneer Press Treasure Hunt Beer, and will be officially releasing it the Saturday before the hunt begins, Jan. 18.
The beer release party begins at noon at the brewery, 414 W. Seventh St., St. Paul, and runs until midnight. This year, you can even take home a 750 ml crowler, or oversize can, of the dark cream ale. There will be an ice bar where Pioneer Press Marketing Vice President Lori Swanson and I will be pouring beer, and a limited run of ice mugs to drink it out of.
The beer, also known as a Kentucky Common, is a delicious copper-colored number, brewed with 35 to 40 percent corn. It has light aromas of sweet corn and oak and some pear and orange marmalade fruitiness. Spicy/floral American Cluster and Czech Saaz hops helps balance things out. It’s a very reasonable 5.2 percent ABV (alcohol by volume), so it’s easy to drink a few.
This year, Bad Weather is also serving two casks of the beer, one with the addition of Cluster hops, and one aged on bourbon oak cubes.
Food truck Food Trip Foods will be in attendance, and we will be displaying some really cool Treasure Hunt memorabilia, including some old medallions.
Pioneer Press light-up medallions, which are required to win the full $10,000 prize in the Treasure Hunt, will be available for sale at the event as well.
