Meet Winter Carnival’s canine royalty Saturday at Doggie Depot event

Submitted by Administrator on

The winners of the fourth annual St. Paul Winter Carnival Doggie Depot Canine King and Queen will be crowned Saturday morning at St. Paul’s Union Depot.

The Royal Barksters were nominated and selected by an online vote. Canine King is Luke, a 4-year-old Great Dane owned by Susan Cragg from Champlain. Canine Queen is Bailey, a 7-year-old Golden Retriever owned by Holly Parker from Chanhassen. Both of the dogs have some health issues. Here are notes from their owners:

“Bailey is hoping 2020 proves to be much better than 2019.  Last year she spent about four months fighting Blastomycosis!  A really yucky disease! While down one eye now, and still lots of trips to the vet, she still is the happiest, goofiest and most amazing therapy doggo!”

“Luke is the kindest, gentlest dog with a loving temperament.  He is majestic in size and has beautiful features.  Unfortunately he was diagnosed with Dilated Cardiomyopathy and has a very short life expectancy.  He spreads so much joy everywhere he goes and is truly a king!!”

Luke and Bailey will be crowned by human Winter Carnival royalty at 10:30 a.m. Saturday. The coronation is just part of Doggie Depot at Union Depot, 214 E. Fourth St., from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Representatives from Sidewalk Dog will be on hand to share tips with guests about the Twin Cities’ most pet-friendly restaurants, retailers and more. The Doggie Depot event is free and guests are encouraged to bring their dogs to the special event.
