St. Paul jeweler Todd Hawkinson said he was surprised that the medallion he fashioned for the 2013 Pioneer Press Treasure Hunt broke when it was unearthed. So this year, he’s trying a new plastic — not to mention a new design — in hopes that it will withstand whatever hunters throw at it. Otherwise, he said, it’s back to the drawing board.
