Dew Days’ 40th anniversary drew crowds of people to Farmington last week. People had the chance to tour Dakota City Heritage Village and learn about life in the early 1900s, or they could make their way downtown to bounce on the bungee trampoline or enter the chalk drawing contest. Other highlights included the pie-eating contest, with cherry pies baked by the Farmington Bakery, and the bed races. CrossFit Calypso was the winning bed race team for the second year in a row. New this year, the Farmington Fire Department invited residents to suit up in firefighting gear to play waterball. Teams of two aimed fire hoses at a suspended barrel and tried to move the barrel to the opposite team’s side. On Saturday night, the rain held off just in time for the grand parade. The new sensory zone drew dozens of families, but all parade-goers got to enjoy music from the Farmington High School marching band, waves from local police and fire departments, and plenty of candy. After the parade, Kiss the Pig contestants vied for a chance to smooch Emmett the pig. In the end, City Council Member Joshua Hoyt was the lucky pig-kisser. Kiss the Pig donations totaled over $3,200, a record high, according to Recreation Supervisor Missie Kohlbeck.
