19th Annual Cooler Crew Rehash Bash
Sunday, Febrauary 7, 2016
The Wellstone Center
179 Robie Street East
Saint Paul, MN 55107
12pm-4pm

We are pleased to announce the time and place of the 19th annual Cooler Crew Rehash Bash. Show up, bring a dish to share. It was a short hunt, but we got a lot of ideas for food out of the clues. Thanks to Allison Wonderland for setting it up, to Scott Matson for suggesting it, since we couldn't get Newell.

There is a rental fee, which, with typical attendance works out to about 3 bucks a person, so if you have some to spare, donations to cover the fee are always appreciated!

15th Annual Rehash Bash
Potluck
Sunday, February 5, 2012
Lake Johanna - Lakeside Pavilion
11:30 am

Its hard to believe this is the 15th year of doing this. So, after several eyars of being inside due to the cold (and being unable to get the pavilion at Newell like we wanted due to time), we're returnign to our roots and having a February picnic outdoors due to the weather! We're taking over the lakeside pavilion at Tony Schmidt park.

The lakeside pavilion will make it easier for those bringing grills, stoves and generators. There is no electricity onsite. We have been asked to carry out any trash if there are no trash cans available.

Although the 2011 hunt has come to a close all too soon, the 2011 Rehash Bash has been confirmed. Come join us in our annual picnic as we commisserate the finding of the medallion. Once again we will be in the building at Newell Park from 11:30am to 2:30pm, Sunday, February 6, 2011. As always its a potluck, so bring a dish to share! There is a cost to rent the facility, so donations to cover that cost will be accepted. Since the Super Bowl is later on in the day, this shouldn't pose a problem for anyone's parties.

In addition, from Allison Wonderland,

There was something distinctly unsatisfying with this hunt in the end. Consequently we're going to do something a bit different with the Mock Hunt this year. Instead of doing it a month later, we're going to kick it off at the Rehash Bash next Sunday the 6th. The first clue will come out at the event. After that the clues will come out at 7pm. There will be one per day. They will be posted here, on the CC board, and on the PP board. It will be in a park in St. Paul. There are two ways to participate. One, you can be a registered hunter for $10. If you win, you get all the money collected or $200, whichever is more. Two, you can be an unregistered hunter for free. If you are unregistered and you win, you get a flat $100 and the rest of the money will go towards another contest.

If you're not planning to be at the Rehash Bash, you can still register by sending me the money via Paypal to this email address or send me an email and I'll give you an address to send the check to.

I expect we'll get a big turnout this year so there should be some good competition.

Newell Park Pavilion
900 N. Fairview Ave.
Saint Paul, MN 55104
11:30am-2:30pm

The 13th Annual Rehash Bash will be held on Sunday, January 31, 2010, at Newell Park, from 11:30am to 2:30pm. As always, its a potluck, and since we've got the building, there will be plenty of power indoors for crock pots. Donations will be accepted to cover the $136 cost for renting the facility. MrMnMikey has some door prizes available. Since this isn't Super Bowl Sunday this year, if people want to stick around past the 2:30 closing time, we can start a fire in one of the fire rings.

In addition, many of us long-time Coolerheads are loyal servants of Vulcanus Rex. Join us for the Vulcan Victory Torchlight Parade, followed by the Vulcan Victory Dance. Information on the Parade Route is from the 2006 Vulcan Krewe. The best places for viewing the parade are going to be at the end of the parade route, as His Majesty, Vulcanus Rex LXXIII, the true King of the Winter Carnival, overthrows that other guy on the steps of the St. Paul Central Library, across from Rice Park

Location: Mason Lodge (As always, thanks for keeping us indoors, AW!)
1044 Front Avenue
Saint Paul, MN 55103
Sunday, February 1, 2008
Time: High noon

In the grand tradition of the Cooler Crew, it is our great pleasure to announce the 12th Annual Cooler Crew Rehash Bash. Once again it will take place at AW's Mason Lodge, as the pic-a-nic facilities at Swede Hollow are minimal to say the least. Kitch will be crowned the winner of the annual park pool.

Bring a dish to share and eating utensils. There will be power there, so you can keep your warm food warm. Remember, alcohol is forbidden at the lodge.

Also, to help defray the cost of the $75 lodge rental fee, there will be a collection jar present.

Inaugural Cooler Crew button This image became the design for the first, and very hard to find, Cooler Crew Commemorative Button. Greg Sax designed it, and managed to get it available at the first Rehash Bash, all while he was living in Milwaukee and unable to attend the bash. His friends brought the buttons out to the park.

One decade ago, give or take about 5 days, on a cold day in February a few medallion hunters met out at Cherokee Park for the first time. Their hunt was over for the year, yet something didn't feel quite right about the situation. A lot of virtual friendships were made in what was then known as the Water Cooler on the Pioneer Press web site. Ten years ago, the Cooler Crew was born.

This year, we celebrate the 10th anniversary of that event, the very first Cooler Crew Rehash Bash. Come share your thoughts, frustrations, and noodles; commiserate with the other hunters who are sad to see the event come to an end for another year.

As with every Rehash Bash, this is a potluck affair. Bring a dish to share and something to drink (not an adult-type beverage, since the lodge prohibits alcohol), and prepare to have a good time.

Come celebrate 10 years with us! Everyone is welcome!

Even Hunter Fred.

The 10th Annual Rehash Bash is going to take place this Sunday,
February 4th starting at noon. Traditionally this has been a picnic in
the park the medallion was found in. However, because of the extreme
cold expected that day, we have decided instead to move it indoors.
That way we can enjoy each other's company and the pleasures of the
potluck for a lot longer and without having to suffer frostbite. So
bring the kids, bring something for the potluck, and bring your
treasure hunting memories.

We'll be meeting at the Como Park Mason Lodge at 1044 Front St. in St.
Paul. That's just one block east of Lexington and just south of Como
Park (between Gabe's by the Park and Half Time Rec). Everyone is
welcome. We'll be meeting in the basement where there is a full
kitchen available. And then for anyone that wants to stick around,
we'll have the Superbowl showing at 5pm on a giant screen TV.

See http://www.comoparklodge.com/Directions.htm if you want directions.

Battle Creek Picnic Pavillion -- Note location change due to lack of seating

The hunt's over, the puck's been found. And it wasn't one of us. Yet, it takes a group of crazy people to have a picnic in the middle of the winter. But, this is Minnesota, we are such a crazy group of people, and there will be a winter picnic. Bring your picnic gear, something to share, and your hunt tales to commiserate with the rest of the hunters who weren't so lucky. And hey, the finders may even stop by to show us where it was hidden.

Eighth Annual Rehash Bash

Submitted by Terry on

One hundred folks, give or take a few, gathered at Crosby Lake Park for the eighth annual Rehash Bash to put another Winter Carnival Medallion Hunt to rest. There were the familiar faces and some new to the Cooler Crew as well.

This year’s finders were kind enough to show people where the prized medallion was found. Seems everyone was within feet of it at one time or another during the hunt. Does this mean the Crew is getting closer? Maybe next year, the Cooler Crew will prevail.

Food for this year’s Bash included sloppy Joe medallions, meatballs, goulash, dips, chips, almond bark, cakes, cookies, salads, desserts and hors d’ouerves of all kinds. No one should have left hungry. The Crew does know how to throw a party!

KT saw to it that there were clever, clue-related door prizes again this year. Thanks to Mikey who donated the digging tool, OTS & Pay me for donating the GI Zephy, and KT’s hubby for making the "golden pick". Others brought wood for the fire so we could stay warm. Thanks for making these gatherings so successful. Your contributions are treasured and made this event memorable.

This year’s hunt was marked by the Crew with a special tribute to Zephy who is currently serving in Iraq. During the past two weeks, he joined the Crew at the Pre-Dig Gig, his likeness has been on WCCO news, on the front page of the Pioneer Press paper, out hunting, being knighted, in a parade and even had February 5, 2005 proclaimed his special day in the City of St. Paul by Mayor Randy Kelly. Zephy celebrated with us again at the Rehash Bash. Pictures of these two weeks can be found within the pages of this website. Be sure to check them out. Special thanks go to Zephy’s family for allowing us to share this special time with them. Jason and Sue Michaelson (Ares and Treasure Chest) arranged for many of the events and took care of Zephy in their home. Thanks for being top-notch hosts and chauffeurs! You did the Cooler Crew proud!

As another hunt draws to a close, this writer is awe-struck with how large the Cooler Crew has become. We have won recognition in a documentary movie, No Time for Cold Feet, been featured as part of a clue for the 2003 hunt, again have our own website and have gained positive press with Zephy. For a group that has found each other because we have an obsession about finding medallions in the snow, there is much for which this loosely formed group can be proud.

We may not have yet found the Winter Carnival medallion prize, but we’ve won a much more valuable one…the prize of true friendships.

Coolerheads will prevail! 2006 is our year!!

Crosby Farm Nature Area
At the Picnic Shelter

Come rehash the clues, hear the stories and the theories, commiserate with others and maybe get to meet the finder(s)! Bring a dish to share, eating utensils and plates, a lawn chair if you'd like and picnic in the park! It has been confirmed by several folks that power is available there, so crock pots are usable.
