Follow-Up
Ever hear the term, records are made to be broken!
Last Tuesday evening Ben and Jill Britz along with their sons Mason and Ryan did just that. Shortly after the posting of the first clue on the medallion madness in Belle Plaine Minnesota facebook page, the Britz family had the 2024 Bar-B-Que medallion in their hands. It was discovered in a low crotch of an evergreen tree near the gazebo and old band shelter that was moved out of Union Square Park recently. It’s new location is right off of Couinty Road 3 on the south side of Highway 169 at the bottom of the overpass bridge the intersection of County Road 3 and Enterprise Drive. Mason is the one who actually came up with it. According to Jill it was about 40 minutes and they had it solved. That’s the fastest this clue writer remembers a medallion being found. With that said the Britz Family has the title in that category.
To let you know the Britz family is no stranger to the medallion hunts in Belle Plaine. They’ve been so close so many times they lost count. In fact, back in 2015, Jill and her son Mason discovered the Harvest Hunt medallion on a sign near one of the holes on the Disc golf course in Court Park. So they’re not newbies, but its been along time.
When asked what’s the one clue that brought you to the location of the medallion? Their answer was, “Our Three Days of Play”. There was a few references to bands in the clue and they thought the bands at Bar-B-Que Days played all three days. “Seek out the shade and rest” they thought the gazebo provided this, it being a shelter rather then a band stand now. “I’m a Reserve” they thought that with the new band stand in Union Park being built that the old band shelter was a reserve now. “I’m kinda concealed, play the out field” they thought that this was a reference to the farms fields near by. “New World Order” they thought this was a reference to the gazebo or old band shelter being in a new location or new world. “Stills and Nash” was a reference to a band and “Memory Lane” was a reference to the old band stand rather than the new one. “ Battle Front” was a reference to Veterans Park across Highway 169.
Again, Congratulations to the Britz family for their record breaking find.
A little bit about the clue and what some of them meant: I mentioned a few bands in the clue. Bananarama, The Outfield, Pandora, Stills and Nash, The Warning are all bands, a reference to the old band stand and all the bands mentioned are all Trios, which is a reference to County Road 3. The New World Order is a wrestling Trio. Alvin and the Chip Munks is also a Trio. Seek out the shade and rest and find some shelter was a reference to the gazebo. I’m a reserve ready to serve had a duo meaning. The reserve players on a team are usually called the bench. there is a bench near by that says Rotary on it. I’m a Reserve ready to serve is also a reference to Veterans Park across Highway 169.
Give me some space, Captain Picard from Star Trek said this on the show. That was a reference to Enterprise Drive near by the medallion location. Hire a Corder and bring your trunks was a reference to the tree it was on. Hail to the Queen was a reference to the Dairy Queen.
I know this medallion hunt didn’t last very long and that might have bothered some of you. Believe me as the clue writer I want this to go as long and as many clues as it can but sometime you put a clue out and someone figures it out and that’s what the Britz family did.
Ben, Jill, Mason and Ryan, hats off to you for a job well done. Next hunt is the Harvest Hunt in September.

Warm days of July, give this a try, all are welcome to play,
This yearly riddle, call it a taradiddle, decipher these hints and shorten my stay.

Our three days of play, is on its way, 66th this year.
A new band stand, life is grand, they may even have beer.

Seek out the shade and rest, it’s what I do best,
The heat will swelter, find some shelter, there will be a test.

I’m a reserve, ready to serve, Bananarama.
Mode of travel, don’t unravel, bring a Llama.

I’m kind of concealed, play the Outfield, the Union Gap,
Give me some space, stay on pace, its kind of a trap.

Box of Pandora, among the flora, hire a corder,
Many parts make the whole, go for a stroll, the New World Order.

Seek the Sunrise, if you’re wise, Alvin and the Chipmunks,
Hope you’re gaining and if it doesn’t stop raining, bring your trunks.

Our summertime bash, Stills & Nash, hail to the Queen,
Top of the morning, this is The Warning, choices are umpteen.

Call my bluff, this is memory lane stuff, welcome to the hunt,
Historical wishin, non-stop traditions, can we call it a Battle Front?
