Belle Plaine Bar-B-Que Day’s
Medallion Hunt 2025
Follow-Up
Hey folks, another Bar-B-Que Days medallion hunt is in the books.
I was thinking if their was a Mount Rushmore of medallion hunters the faces would be, Miller Traut, Beckmann, Heitkamp, Schultz, Bratch, Hartman, Zurn, Kruschke. But not this year, we have another face. Last Tuesday evening, July 15th, the 2025 Bar-B-Que day medallion was found in the southwest corner of Veterans Park inside a red reflector, near a power pole by the billboard advertisements. The new face is none other then Tony Olsen of Belle Plaine.
I say new face, but Tony is no stranger to the medallion hunts in Belle Plaine. He’s been looking for them ever since he was a kid and finally he hit pay dirt.
Well what got Tony to the prize? Tony told me in the first couple clues, there was a number of references to US states. So he was concentrating on State Street at first. Then in one of the clues there was a reference to the view of an eagle. Well, first of all Eagle Street intersects with State Street, so he spent some time looking at that intersection with no luck. Then something that came to his mind was he knew there was an eagle at the top of one of the flag poles in front of Veterans Park. So he Concentrated on that area for a while. He did say there’s an eagle at the Post Office which is right off of State Street, so Tony was bouncing back and forth between State Street and Veterans Park. Once the third clue came out, there were a few more references to US States. Tony said he looked everywhere on State Street, so he wondered what by Veterans Park had anything to do with States. Then it hit him that State Farm Insurance Agency was by Veterans Park, so off he went and he said, I’m going to look on everything until I find it. After some searching, Tony made his way to the Billboard area of the Park. Looked for a while and spotted the red reflector the coin was on and looked at it, turned and started to walk away, then it hit him, why would they have all of that black tape behind that reflector? Then he remembered there was a reference to black tape in the clue. So Tony turns around, goes back to the red reflector and starts to peel the tape off of the reflector and before you know it, the medallion was in his hands.
His first thought was, so many years of looking for this and I finally found one. Tony said he would like to give some of the credit for the find to his children because when he found it, it was the only time his children weren’t with him.
Congratulations to the Olson Family
To touch on a few of the major clues and what they meant:
- See the Dells=Wisconsin
- Things could get Erie=Pennsylvania
- Tar on your heels=North Carolina
- I look like a mitten=Michigan
- Nickname of the Cobb=Georgia
- Jonathan Dean White=Nevada
- AZ the world turns=Arizona
These are all the battle ground states in the last election. Battle ground being a reference to Veterans Park.
The Billboard in Veterans Park has advertisement for Napa Auto Parts and Berger Interiors.
- “Who has the know how” was a reference to Napa know how.
It’s life’s illusion I recall, lyrics of the song “Both sides now” meaning that information came from both sides of the billboard.
On the Berger interior side of the billboard,
- Berger Interiors does cabinets. Chris Wright and Linda McMahon are members of Trumps cabinet.
- Tigers and Saints; Berger Interiors has locations in Belle Plaine and St. Peter
- Be the slider and shake, shake, shake are types of burgers
- Mr. T and the Animal=Both of them wear mohawks and Berger Interiors sells Mohawk carpeting
- Couch potato was a reference to furniture
All of this information is on the billboard.
- Mockingbird Lane and simplify and multiply=in the TV show the Munster's, the Munster's lived at 1313 Mockingbird Lane. If you multiply 13x13 it equals 169.
- Batman’s girl friend=Chase Meridian The medallion was at the corner of Hwy 169 and Meridian Street.
- Iron bowl tigers=Auburn
- Crimson and Clover & Red Tomatoes are all shades of red. The reflector the medallion was on was red in color
- The view of an eagle, Tony was right, it was a reference to the eagle on the flag pole in Veterans Park
- Sign the Wavers was a reference to all the American Flags in the park
This should explain everything, for the most part.
Again, Congratulations to Tony and the Tony Olson Family
Next hunt in late September.
