Well that was quick! Thursday afternoon 7/02/26, seven year old Clayton Urista discovered the Bar-B-Que Medallion next to some play ground equipment behind Chatfield Elementary School.
I often wonder what it takes to find one of these medallions. Is it luck? Are we experts at solving things, is it being in the right place at the right time. Well in my opinion, it’s a combination of all of it.
Well contrary to my opinion, that’s not what happened this time. Thursday afternoon Clayton got out of Kidsco, a child care service at Chatfield Elementary and he headed right to the playground equipment behind the school. As any kid would. The unique and cool part of this story is Clayton said he went to the playground looking for spiders, so he got to the playground, started turning things over and ran into the medallion. As soon as Clayton uncovered the medallion, he turned it in to the Kidsco Staff. That’s when they determined he had found the Bar-B-Que Day Medallion. So it was the inquisitiveness of a child that found this medallion. The moral of the story is, find that inner child in yourself and keep it simple. Clayton’s mother Laura is a member of the Medallion Madness in Belle Plaine MN, so Clayton’s family has a big interest in the medallion hunts. Again Congratulations to Clayton on a job well done.
Some of the things in the clue that may have led you to the medallion; There’s a storage shed on the playground that says Tiger Den on it. So the word Den was the theme in the clue.
A place to litter, hidey holes, seek the grotto, back to the dug out, I sit in my roost, in the hollow, habitation, a place fit for the alpha were all references to the word den.
Out of the park was a reference that the medallion was not in a park this year.
Play the reserves was a reference to, in team sports, the reserves are known as the bench. There are a few benches on the playground.
That’s a wrap on the 2026 Bar-B-Que Day’s Medallion hunt.
The prize for this years find is a prize package provided by all the sponsors of the Bar-B-Que Day’s Festivities.
