The official meaning of the clue.

Devine is an Irish surname derived from Ó Daimhín/Ua Daimhín.

Our Thoughts

Presumably this was to get us thinking of Irish names, like Sullivan. Interesting note, there was a "Devine" reference in the 2019 Pioneer Press Hunt at Long Lake. The only Devine street in the Twin Cities is in New Brighton. Plenty of Devine's settled the area around Columbia Heights and New Brighton and were involved in the early days of the stock yards.

The official meaning of the clue.

The common Sullivan surname means "hawk-eyed" or "little dark-eyed one," derived from the Irish súildhubhán, from suil, meaning "eye" and dubh, meaning black.

While there's debate on the origins of the Sullivan name, this one is actually good, especially with (Hawkeye) Pierce Street nicking the northeast edge of LaBelle Park
