A couple of weeks ago Steve Nestor produced and emceed a program at the City Park. Attendees enjoyed good music, an overview of 100 years of bandshell history and still got home before dark. We learned the positive influence for education and music appreciation from the Glenwood Academy which was instrumental (pun intended) in establishing this venue that a century later we still see.
My paternal Grandma attended the Academy, which perched on a knoll looked august and formal. Three decades later my Mom also trained to teach school which looked, in a word, normal. 2025 marks the 100th anniversary of her birth on a farm over in the New Prairie Township, but at the same time. So I just want to give a shout our and say thanks for her knack of writing in rhyme.

It has been said that history doesn’t exactly repeat itself but it often seems to rhyme.
Presenting opportunities for vision and civic action for worthy projects in our lifetime.
Like the ongoing renovation at Central Square, a building once thought to be a liability.
In 12 years, we can recognize a century to celebrate the maintenance and care of that facility.
Likewise with community collaboration, the 18 member Waterama board of directors is the driving force.
Supported by perennially recognized employers, ASB & GRHS to help stay the course.
Along with other corporate sponsors: FAST, Lakeside, Marthalers, GFD and Pizza Ranch deserve our thanks
Joined by hundreds of other donors and volunteers among Waterama’s ranks.

And then there are the sustainers, the brass and their families who commit to a three-year term
The time and travel schedule might cause many when asked, to pause and squirm
Kudos to the MAHS Girls Basketball Team, our Grande Parade Marshals and their remarkable seasons run
And pontoon Parade Marshals Dan and Heidi Winter – drop the mic – well done!
In just a few days our focus will again be toward the City Park bandshell stage
When we crown our junior and senior royalty as Waterama ’69 turns the page
Thanks and congratulations for carrying on the tradition and choosing to run
Whatever decisions are attained, valuable experience will be obtained, with lots and lots of fun.

Ok let’s see what you’ve retained from school, now there’s a big clue
From the corner of 2nd Avenue NE and Franklin Street go East on 2nd Avenue uphill a 100 feet or two
Go to the acute angle end of the block wall and now for the final point
Carefully extract the medallion from whatever your choice of joint.
