2026 South St. Paul Kaposia Days Medallion Hunt

South St. Paul Kaposia Days would like to invite you to take part in our annual Medallion Hunt! Visit the Kaposia Days Facebook page for daily clues. There will be two clues a day starting Sunday, June 21st at 5PM and ending with one final clue on Friday, June 26th for a total of 10 Clues. The Clues will come out at 9AM and 5PM with the final clue coming out at noon on the 26th.  Search for the hidden medallion on public land in South Saint Paul. If found take a photo of where you found the medallion, call the number with it to return it, and receive your $300 prize. The finders of the medallion will have the opportunity to be honored in the Grande Parade on Friday evening.

Rules:

  • The medallion will not be hidden on any school property, Northview Pool or Lorraine Pool, under any skating surface, on a baseball/softball field, under any ground, any gated area, or at any construction site.
  • Climbing will not be necessary. Do not alter city property at any time.
  • South St. Paul Parks close promptly at 10:00PM. You may hunt 8:00am-10:00pm
  • If you trespass outside of the 8:00am-10:00pm park hours, you will be disqualified from the hunt.
  • If you find the Kaposia Days medallion, PROMPTLY call the number on the medallion or message FB for further instructions on how to claim the prize.
  • South St. Paul Kaposia Days reserves the right to discontinue the hunt at any time if public property is destroyed.
  • To redeem the full prize award, the finder of the medallion must have a 2026 Kaposia Days button

The official meaning of the clue.

Kaposia Days was founded as one of the many U.S. Bicentennial celebrations of 1976.  The medallion is hidden near the baseball bullpen and home run territory.

Follow the hunt rules, not hidden at the pool, construction, or on the field.  There are cameras visible from the hiding location.

Croatian Hall sign can be found in left field,Croatian Coat of Arms features a checkered pattern with moon and goat symbols.  Dexter (index) to Sinister (sincerely) is how a shield’s layout reads.

The land that contains Lorraine Park and the surrounding neighborhood was originally platted as part of the “Lorraine Park Addition” to South St. Paul in 1919 by Eugene and Christine Villaume. Some streets contained on that plat, such as Ravine St. and Hilcrest Place no longer exist. And other streets, such as 8th St. and Villaume Ave. have been rerouted.

Chicken or the Egg?  Not the egg.  Clue dedicated to Chick McLain to whom McLain Pool is named after.  He was a teacher, basketball coach, and driving instructor.

The official meaning of the clue.

The first public pool in South St. Paul was named Lorraine Park Pool, and its location was first determined in 1938, near the spot of the current splash pool. It opened in 1939. This original pool is discussed in local historian Lois Glewwe’s July 2007 South St. Paul Voice article “Summer in the City,” which also references the Water Carnival and Tennis Dances that used to take place, events that were eventually replaced and superseded by Kaposia Days.  The current Grande Parade ends at Lorraine Park.

The official meaning of the clue.

The medallion is hidden under a cracked cement sidewalk near but not on the baseball field or splash pool.  Rabbit’s foot and horseshoe are prominent good luck charms, so is a clover.  A three leaf clover is the logo of Stockmen’s Irish baseball team whose home field is McGuire.

Pride and courage refer to Lion, there are two notable Lions Club signs at McGuire Field.  The medallion is hidden under the sidewalk near the right field foul pole.
