2018 International Festival of Owls Medallion Hunt

When Generals march they review to the left
When Presidents march they review to the right
When trees lose their leaves, the north ones drop first
So, hold these clues dear and begin the big search

Downtown Houston isn’t real big
But the businesses there you really can dig
There’s Carlson’s, Cox’s, Cenex, and Barista’s
You’re just a few blocks from a fabulous feast-a

There’s the HNC and the IOC too
Some say the town has turned into a zoo
But, add Root River Market and the Library there
And you see how much Houston folks care and share

But now I digress, though we’re close to the prize
Let’s get back on the track to see what to surmise
A deep-rooted owl resides near the place
A cannon guards over a most hallowed space 
You’d think you were close and you just might be right
But it can’t be that easy, so turn back your sight

On public land, It just must be.
On structure, ground, or in a tree
So pray now, what’s in sight,
Whether back, or left or right
Where, oh where could that thing be
That fits my very special need

Could it be up on a shelf
Placed there for a hungry elf
Or in an alley where votes are tallied
Or in the center where Houstonians enter
Or it could be high, up toward the sky
In a spot that’s really meant
For Council-folks to truly vent

You no doubt learned that you’ve been tricked
But it’s no fun to be so quick
So you best now turn around
And put your nose down to the ground
Adventure has been called the journey
So seek that place you first had scurried

Now that you’ve been ‘round the block
Cross those hairs upon the spot
And though I’m sure you find hunts trying.
Can one really start denying
This challenge really seems to swing
After all, the play’s the thing
