Houston, Houston, I hear your call
Medallion time, come one, come all
With little rhymes, oh so sublime
Within city limits all of the time
On public land, that’s where I’ll be
For you to claim my finders fee

What will be the theme this year?
Oh, so desperate for good cheer.
We’ll keep it distanced and outdoors
Mask up or not, the choice is yours
Remember when you’re on the hunt
Just where you are and what’s in front
No need to squeeze and crowd inside
I’m at a site meant for sore eyes

When you can see hope in so many eyes
It’s a devious thing to hide a prize
To frustrate and fool the good citizens here
Is sadistic, but fills me with Grinch-like cheer
Oh, to think of folks trudging round town
Straining their brains from sunrise to sundown
Taking on a so challenging rhyme
To learn how this town has evolved over time

Oh, it’s quite inconvenient for things so pandemic
Owls online might seem too academic
Yet we can connect with the rest of the world
Which shows how we all in this same boat are hurled
Rowing together we get so much done
Whether hoeing down or having owl fun
As we look for a sign that life will be better
Though each of our interests may likely differ
We need go no further than working together
To sit side by side and touch an owl’s feather.

We have a hoedown to get folks to town
But what other incentives will give this town renown
We put letters on bluffs to announce our presence
Many other distinctions promote our true essence
A center for owls. Oh how absurd!
An eagle is a much more spectacular bird
But the number of eagles ain’t many I’m told
And though one is Golden, the other one’s bald
Owl species worldwide are substantially more
And the fact they love nightlife makes them less of a bore

For enterprise here, there was alcohol
Not that which you drink and then get in a brawl,
But the kind that you blend for combustion internal
Though the life of that venture was far less than eternal.
Recycle that thought to update your history
And the goal of your quest becomes less a mystery
If you’ve got the facts right, you can bet your last dime
Pushing on in assurance will get you there fine

Between the lines that are now oh so gone
Where folks took stock for traveling on
And old paddle-wheelers churned up the silt
Very soon after the ice did melt
A boulevard does now prevail
On your way to the Holy Grail
More changes here are soon to come
So, consider this a handy bread crumb

Vervat was the name of a woods of old
Where the town’s cattle all rocked-and-rolled
Where calves would frolic until it would flood
And beautiful bluebells stirred joy in your blood
And though that’s a beautiful memory now
Oh, how is it useful in your quest somehow?
Not all then was romantic, oh no, my oh my
But think what now has replaced the cow pie.

A park where children love to play
Is natural in so many ways
It’s a great place to take a tyke
You can walk or even bike
Though picnics are so great in May
They might not be so great today
But if you sit down for some picnic entrees
It would be oh so good to elevate your gaze
