Hunt for the Golden Puck

Join the Hunt — a gold colored hockey puck will be hidden somewhere on public land in Ramsey or Hennepin County. 

No purchase, digging or destruction of property required. Each week, visit hiway.org/goldpuck for clues on the whereabouts of the puck or watch Hiway’s Twitter ( #HiwayGoldPuck ) and Facebook (@HiwayFCU ) for clues. New clues about its location will be announced every Friday from March 4 – April 1, 2016.

"Placid" refers to Lake Placid, home of the "Miracle on Ice" when the U.S. Men’s Olympic Hockey team won gold at the 1980 Olympic Winter Games. The player on the roster who wore number 5 was Mike Ramsey. Ramsey is the county in which the puck is hidden.

“A break-in here put some in jail” is a reference to the Watergate scandal. The southwest entrance to Crosby Lake Regional Park is also the entrance to the Watergate Marina. This clue indicates the puck is located on the southwest side of the park.

The clue indicates that boots are helpful because the trail may be wet. “Lode of ore is ever near” indicates that the distance from the park entrance isn’t far. A Wetland Trail sign contains an arrow pointing in the general direction of where the puck is hidden.

“To one who prospects nigh a rill” refers to a very small brook/stream located near the hiding location. “Take the path toward a higher lane” encourages participants to use the walking path that runs along the hillside. “Extract the ore to make your claim” is a clue that the puck is hidden near a rock, from which gold is usually extracted.
