THE MIDWEST COMMUNICATIONS 2022 MEDALLION HAS BEEN FOUND!

Judy Thornton of Duluth has found the medallion in the Great Midwest Communications Medallion Hunt.

It was found at Keene Creek Park in Hermantown – about 10 feet off a crossroads of the trails in the park – southwest of the main parking lot. The medallion was located under some light snow about 15 feet from a one way sign indicating the direction cross country skiers should go.

Judy wins a 2022 Moto C-Force ATV from Duluth Lawn and Sport and Five Thousand Dollars cash from Fond-Du-Luth Casino.

Pull on your boots
And look for some color
And when the sun shines
It looms like no other

A splash of ginger
Amid white, brown, and gray
Near the head of the trail
Where you must make your way
The official meaning of the clue.
I noticed a tree near the trail head that had an orange hue – especially when the sun was shining on it. The featured picture does not really do it justice

The place that you seek
Might be a repeat
To intensify this year's mystique
So instead of brand new
Think more deja vu
It's what makes this hunt so unique
The official meaning of the clue.
This clue indicates that the medallion is hidden at a place that it’s been before. We hid it at Keene Creek Park in 2012

Four cities to search
Amid pine and the birch
To find where the prize has its perch

Four cities are fine
With the pomp and the rhyme
And the contest that's laid out with time

But if we're telling the truth
To you old and of youth
The illustrious medallion is not in Duluth
The official meaning of the clue.
A long way of saying the medallion is not in Duluth

We won't pave the way
At least not today
To the site of the treasured jackpot
But this we can say
As you're searching today
There are plenty of leads to spot
The official meaning of the clue.
Many trails led to the location of the medallion. A number of upgrades to Hermantown parks within the past year included paving some of the trail system. However, the trail that the medallion was hidden near was not paved.

With a thespian chap named J-K
He's likely stunned being here
In this clue
.....But he's near
The trailhead, where we hiked that day.
The official meaning of the clue.
This is a reference to Jody Kujawa (aka The “not” Poop Fairy) who is featured on signs in many of the area parks – including at the trail-head at Keene Creek Park. Jody is a popular actor in the Twin Ports area

We implore every year
But we need you to hear
About where you should go and should not
So please take an oath
Stay away from new growth
And just keep trekking on to the spot
The official meaning of the clue.
There were new growing pine trees with individual cages surrounding each of them. The medallion was hidden at least 100 yards past that area at Keene Creek Park.

Attention attention
We're compelled here to mention
Even though it flies in the face of convention
Do not be digging into a lovely groomed trail
This will only lead you into a colossal fail
But with all that said
As you're forging ahead
Be mindful it could be nearby there instead
The official meaning of the clue.
First it is a reminder not to dig into groomed cross country ski trails. This clue indicates that it will not be under the snow on a trail but may be close by. It was found 10 feet off a trail.

By now you are keen
Mostly sure of the scene
Of the place you need to prospect
Slightly off of a trail
Where no engines will sail
And please don't forget to respect
The official meaning of the clue.
This clue obviously points a searcher to Keene Creek Park. It was located on a trail off limits to snowmobiles. It also is a reminder to those hunting to be respectful of the land and other medallion hunters.
