2014 Waseca Sleigh & Cutter Medallion Hunt

Submitted by Administrator on

It’s once again time for the Sleigh and Cutter medallion hunt. This year’s clues are written to the tune of “Winter Wonderland.”

Save each of the five weeks’ clues until the entire song is complete. Hear audio versions of the clues at wasecacountynews.com.

The medallion is hidden outdoors, on public property within the Waseca city limits. A $1,500 prize of Chamber Dollars and store certificates will be awarded to the person who finds the medallion.

Bring the medallion to Charlie’s Hardware. Clues will be published each week in the Waseca County News (and at wasecacountynews.com) and New Richland Star Eagle, broadcast on KORN and KOWZ radio, and available online at Waseca Area Chamber of Commerce at info@wasecachamber.com.

The hunt is sponsored by Waseca Hy-Vee, Charlie’s Hardware, Waseca County News, First National Bank, KOWZ/KORN radio and Waseca VFW Club 1642.

Time again, for exploring
Read all clues, no ignoring
Then get on outside
The medal now hides
In this Sleigh and Cutter wonderland

Icy ground could cause slipping
And the temps keep on dipping
Most banks are steep
And snow is quite deep
In this Sleigh and Cutter wonderland

In the distance you hear traffic flowing
Travelling east and west across the town
Where you’re standing only wind is blowing
Mother Nature makes the only sounds

You see one…intersection
You can go two directions
Set out south or north
Just stay on the course
In this Sleigh and Cutter wonderland

All around, fallen branches
Do you dare take your chances?
If you’re in a slough
You could slip right through
In this Sleigh and Cutter wonderland

If you stay on high ground you’ll be seeking
To find out where that medallion hides
Under rocks and bushes you’ll be peeking
In the quest to win yourself the prize

Look around at the chaos
Down below, you could get lost
A shipwreck of trees
Left there to freeze
In this Sleigh and Cutter wonderland

You decide—should you go there…
Or stay up where the path’s bare?
Just forge on ahead
Let’s put it to bed
In this Sleigh and Cutter wonderland

In the gully you see mass uprooting
Caused, no doubt, by movement of the ground
If you go there, you could lose your footing
Only worth it if the prize is found

Far away you hear Bluejays
In the fields where they make plays
But not when it snows
They’d freeze off their toes
In this Sleigh and Cutter wonderland

Down below… eyes are gazing
On a scene…quite amazing
An octopus tree
Without any leaves
In this Sleigh and Cutter wonderland

In the wetlands you can spot the arches
Perched above debris that’s tumbled down
Will you forego stomping through the marshes-
Or will you make the choice to look around?

Clue 5
You’ll succeed…be without fear
Months ago…children played near
Don’t set your sights high
It lies low and dry
In this Sleigh and Cutter wonderland

Scan the trail …bending offshoots
Then search close to the plant’s roots
Just dig your way through
You’ll know what to do
In this Sleigh and Cutter wonderland

Whether you’re a pro or a beginner
We hope the search was fun right from the start
Now we’re hoping we can find a winner
Thank you one and all for taking part!
