The greater population won’t deduce our new innovation
Without first attempting these clues that befuddle.
Staying on public terrain is an absolute obligation
While search in a place named for a vast puddle.

This clue told hunters to stay in public property in either White Bear Lake or White Bear Township (“named for a vast puddle” – or lake).

But their toil can aid in your progression.
It seems that after tumbling down that big hill
Jill developed some pent-up aggression.

So, Jill had her fill and crashed into Jack’s Coupe de Ville

The official meaning of the clue.

“What should Jack do?” is the main question of the clue. Given the situation, Jack might sew her, or “sewer.” The medallion was wired down into a sewer drain.

As you poke and prod, let’s mention the strange façade
That fronts our medallion’s dominion.
It and yet another may strike you as a bit odd
But that is all simply a matter of opinion.

“Façade” and “front” were used to describe the main mode of entry into the park, Ninth Street (an “odd” number). “Yet another” was in reference to Seventh Street, which forms the southern border of the park.

Ninth Street runs adjacent to Podvin Park. Opposite Otter Lake Road (the critter), it is named White Bear Parkway.

There are many named streets running into the south side of Podvin Park. Four of those were tipped off in this clue: Karen, Sharon, Peggy & Debra. The “carpenter” referred to Karen Carpenter, the 1960s/70s singer. “Leader of a state” referred to Ariel Sharon, Prime Minister of Israel. “The love that an ole buddy couldn’t tame” described the love that Buddy Holly had for Peggy Sue. Finally, “a television comedian’s lovely mate” was in reference to Debra, the wife of Raymond on CBS’s “Everybody Loves Raymond.”

“Staying on track” referred to the distant Soo Line railroad tracks to the north – close to the park, but still distant to be used as a solid clue. Closer yet was a view of Weyerhauser Paper Company (“follow the paper trail”).

Podvin Park has one of the newest (and nicest) public pavilions in the northeast metro area, built in 2001. “The spelling of a president’s name seems a bit gritty” was in reference to the Fill-More trucks parked in the Weyerhauser Plant parking lot. Millard Fillmore was the 13th President of the United States. Finally, the last line of the first stanza referred to a sign northeast of the hiding spot directing visitors to the Babe Ruth (candy: Baby Ruth) baseball diamonds. The second stanza pointed to the fact that a hole was drilled into the medallion and wired down a city storm drain.

Podvin Park can be found on a line between Central Middle School (hiding spot in 2001) and Rotary Nature Preserve (2002).

Treasure hunters were directed to Podvin Park, between Seventh and Ninth Streets. Podvin Park hosts venues for baseball and soccer. The last two lines warned hunters to stay away from the diamonds (located on the opposite end of the Park from the medallion) and mind the soccer fields (within feet of the chosen storm drain).
