Our annual game is in force again
A challenge fit for all women and men.
Warriors unite, assemble your team,
To crack the codes in our medallion scheme.

Remember the rules you must abide
Respect our campus with WSU pride
Don’t disturb objects permanent in form,
And stay within reach, not above the norm.
The official meaning of the clue.
Simple introduction to this year’s hunt, reminding hunters not to damage any permanent structures on campus, nor will it be hidden high out of reach for any hunters.

Great dreams, he had,
Under community fears,
Your president for 35 years.
Managed campus expansion,
A hall in his name,
Xenaphobic, at times, in sporting games.
With help, he met WSU students’ needs,
Enrollment doubled under his lead.
Learning some history will solve this clue,
Looking at certain letters will also do.
The official meaning of the clue.
The clue makes many references to Winona State’s 7th President Guy Maxwell, who served as WSU’s President for 35 years (1904-1939). Maxwell is well known in his efforts to expand the Winona campus with new academic buildings and residence halls, develop more extracurricular activities under student demand, and enhance Winona’s sports programs (though not so much the female sports activities). Maxwell Hall is named after the former president. For hunters who knew what “certain letters” to look at, the first letter of each line in the clue spell “GUY MAXWELL”.

Clue 4
An “angel” she was, child advocacy her thirst,
Bringing about the nation’s first.
A mock of hers will keep your hopes true,
Now is a good time to revisit Clue #2.
The official meaning of the clue.
The clue refers to Etta Angell (“angel”) Wheeler, well known for her work in child advocacy and bringing the first case of child abuse to court in the U.S in 1873. Her “Mock House” is located in Maxwell Hall on the second floor (Maxwell 261), which also includes a plaque detailing the famous 1873 court case. Revisiting Clue 2 makes sense of the room layout once hunters are in Maxwell.
