Clues
Clue 1
Published Date
Tuesday, August 13, 2013, 7:00 PM

Woodbury Days begins in but a week
Until then, there is treasure you may seek
So where does the medallion reside?
Begin thinking of areas
Where public spaces collide

The official meaning of the clue.

The reference to public places colliding is the key to this clue. The medallion was stashed almost exactly where Royal Oaks Elementary and Chippewa Park meet up.

If you’re looking for direction
Consider last year’s election
East or west -- the location could be either
Instead, search grounds of Ward’s
And not what’s covered by Kieffer

The official meaning of the clue.

We thought we’d see how politically aware this year’s hunters were. Ward – Rep. JoAnn Ward, that is – represents House District 53A, which includes a chunk of western Woodbury. Rep. Andrea Kieffer represents the rest. That eliminated approximately three-quarters of the city from your hunting grounds.

Our winner will be crowned
When the treasure is found
Coming up short?
Here’s where we hold court:
Scour the ground
If you want it to be found

The official meaning of the clue.

“Crowned” is the critical item buried in this clue, where “scour the ground” might appear to be the primary reveal. We were leading you to the area around Royal Oaks – specifically, Queens Drive. Later, we hoped “court” would lead hunters toward the tennis courts; the medallion wasn’t far from there.

Clue 4

The weekend has passed without a find
We hope a local park was on your mind
Need more help on the way to the loot?
Follow the upcoming parade route

The official meaning of the clue.

This clue was just as literal as it appears. The Woodbury Days parade route takes you right past Chippewa Park. (For sticklers, the Woodbury High School homecoming parade – also technically “upcoming” – also traverses a similar route.)

Clue 5

Regal trees are the key in this quest
Landmarks are important, too
And this one may be best:
Medallion is nearest to people
Who have a good view of a steeple

The official meaning of the clue.

Now we would have been getting to the point of helping those still lost. Regal trees? Royal Oaks. Of course. As for the steeple: it would have been obscured by the school at other possible hiding spots in Chippewa, but not for those bearing down on the tree.

Clue 6

Chippewa Park may be tiny
But there are many spots good for hiding
If you’ve sought shelter from the skies
You’re almost on top of the prize

The official meaning of the clue.

You’re in the park, you’re close to the medallion, so we would have needed to get hungry hunters even closer. The arbor vitae was next to the covered pavilion shelter.

Clue 7

Woodbury Days is nearly upon us
So it’s time to make this tidy
The medallion hides
Beneath an arbor vitae

The official meaning of the clue.

Self explanatory.
