Submitted by Joe Medallion (not verified) on

Hunt rules

Clues leading to the hidden 2015 Woodbury Days medallion will be revealed daily from Aug. 19-21. If the medallion isn’t found today (Friday, Aug. 21), more clues will resume Monday through Friday, Aug. 24-28, or until the treasure is found. Visit Anchor Bank, 1920 Donegal Drive in Woodbury, to read the clue by 9 a.m. each day.

Call the Woodbury Bulletin’s hotline for the medallion hunt at (651) 319-4488, where hunters may listen to a voice recording of the most current clue after 11 a.m. daily, and clues will also be posted on woodburybulletin.com at 11 a.m. each day.

How to win

The prize is $500, courtesy of Anchor Bank of Woodbury. The winner is guaranteed the first half of the prize. The second half of the prize is secured when the medallion is returned by a Woodbury Days button holder and the winner calls (651) 702-0973 to alert the Woodbury Bulletin, which typically writes a story about the medallion finder.

The Woodbury Bulletin and Anchor Bank will together present the prize. Any winner who doesn’t have the Button of Savings will receive only $250 of the prize, courtesy of Anchor Bank.

Return the medallion to the bank, during weekday business hours (8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays) to claim the prize.

Clues
Clue 1
Published Date
Tuesday, August 18, 2015, 7:00 PM

Today’s the day! It’s beginning! A brand new medallion hunt
Hope springs eternal! Roses and cupcakes for all
Think hard until the treasure’s been found
Should clues get too hard, worst case, you can always punt

Now before you start looking high and low
If you want to find the puck made of stone
Listen here veterans and newbies
There a few rules you’ve got to know

First and foremost, it’s hidden in the most public of places
So no searching in private or shared yards or non-city parks
No door knocking is necessary, all are welcome at the rock’s home
But remember your best manners, all politeness, good graces

Oh, you should get familiar with a few tips and tricks
Throw out your old assumptions, new clue writer this year
Daily kickoff occurs at Anchor Bank at 9 a.m.
Don’t go digging or climbing, putting or diving; do no damage, just poke with sticks.

Good luck and get going, don’t wait at the station
There are old-timers, know-it-alls and smarties
Who've started pacing the grounds and pawing around
Just hope you can find it ‘fore Woodbury Days’ celebration

Anyone can find this thing — any Tom, Dick, or Frank
Get a team together or go it alone
Enjoy our green, green parks
Call the paper, start the party, bring it to the bank!

The official meaning of the clue.

A warning to start immediately, the first clue contains substance. The medallion is hidden in a public park near a fire station. Veterans are mentioned, pointing to the prize’s close proximity to a veterans memorial.

Clue 2
Published Date
Wednesday, August 19, 2015, 7:00 PM

I was up all Tuesday Morning and night
Waiting for a right time
To hide the prize
And then take flight

So many neighbors
In this town pass by or just walk around
Clue writer was determined for
No waste of my labors

I stayed off the skate park
Out of water
Did not part the sea of traffic
But did have a lark

This hunt should be hard, not so easy
‘Less you tiptoe 140 miles in Woodbury
After which surely you’ll receive
That blessed $500 mostly for free

The official meaning of the clue.

The medallion search area is defined as within Woodbury’s boundaries. If you’ve walked all 140-plus miles of trails in the city, you’ve seen the hiding spot. The particular footpath leads through a natural area, but it’s a minute walk to an area of high vehicle traffic volumes.

Clue 3
Published Date
Thursday, August 20, 2015, 7:00 PM

This shan’t shock you
No one’s turned in the gold
Clue three is a clincher
Not one to poo-poo

To you nature’s calling
As Gordon knows best
Don’t see snapping turtle
Then you’re surely bawling

That medallion’s not gone; it’s out there somewhere
It’s yours to be had
You can find it, you must
Hidden quite well, I solemnly swear

The official meaning of the clue.

The hiding place is in the vicinity of a natural area, the home of a turtle, and a memorial to Gordon Bailey, who donated flowers by the Woodbury Veterans Memorial.

Clue 4

Monday has come
Much to your chagrin
This clue writer teased you
Your stone not quite home

But mere paces it is from big rock of dear Bailey
As very new nursery rhymes we keep on chasing
Stay the course, follow gut feelings to a cloister of safety
Or more clues will taunt you, we’ll publish them daily

The official meaning of the clue.

The clues haven’t led directly to the medallion’s home just yet. But this is the second clue that points to Gordon Bailey’s memorial boulder. Nearby, find a walkway near the public safety building.

Clue 5

Heads toward an easterly city
Not sister but friend
Where a river is flowing
And shops are so pretty

Go by virtue of local Road crooked
Sans north-south or east-west
Picture a medallion hanging handy
If you happened to have looked

The official meaning of the clue.

Afton Road borders one side of the park where the medallion is hidden. The neighboring town after which the road is named, is known for its Old Village with small-town charm — and shopping.

Clue 6

We’ve looked far and ranged
Time to get you all closer to winning this contest
We put our heads together and wondered
Still she stays, well, estranged

Think on this riddle and our next move will be
To see the clue’s in the number
Of the clue released today
One that points us quite near to public safety

Stay out of their route and out of their way
It’s not near cops’ buildings, it’s not on their lawns
Nor in parking lots yon, the medallion is hidden in a park
As I told you, take the trail, a promenade away

The official meaning of the clue.

Sixth clue, sixth pole in a row near a trail. The medallion was safely nestled near the Woodbury Public Safety building.

Clue 7

They died for our country, our earthly heaven
Five flags fly over medallion
Walk the plank but no jumping
Count the pier pilings, one short of seven

It’s nestled and snuggled in some favorite stores’ totes
Kowalski’s and Target and Boston’s Green Monster
On the treasure lies a message
Redeem with the newspaper it notes

The official meaning of the clue.

This clue points directly to Woodbury Veterans Memorial Park, and it tells aobut the three bags — Kowalski’s, Target and Walgreen’s — that contain the medallion. Again, it’s by the sixth pole of the boardwalk.

Clue 8

Happy Woodbury Days!
You’ve made it, what a hunt
Today you should find it
Or what if it stays?

No, we can’t leave it behind
Jewel made of marble
No, lead you I will
This time I’ll be kind

Go to the hall of your town
Park by the memorial
Head onto the boardwalk
And by gully look down!

Then in your rewards you might cash
Congrats! Come to Anchor Bank
For a big check-writing party
In exchange for your stash

It’s over now, to your story you can cleave
With great pride you’ll tell next generations
How you found the medallion
Right smack on Woodbury Days eve

The official meaning of the clue.

To find the medallion, follow these steps: park at city hall; go to the boardwalk; and look down.
