Coldest's Lost Treasure Hunt 2016 official rules

Coldest's Lost Treasure Hunt begins today! The summer local city hunting season is almost here so let's kick it off with another great hunt for Coldest's Lost Treasure!

Last year Matt Koskie was able to pull off the unthinkable. He was able to find the medallion at Trout Brook Nature Sanctuary amongst 8-15 other hunters during the clue 11 mad dash and complete his 3-peat of Coldest's Lost treasure! Because of his success with this hunt Matt has opted to sit out this year and help with the clues and hiding. This year a new king will be crowned, who will step up and take the throne?

This year's rules are as follows:

- The medallion will be hidden on PUBLIC LAND in St. Paul.
- The medallion will be hidden no higher then 5 feet off the ground.
- You will not need to deconstruct public property to find the medallion.
- The medallion will not be buried underground but could be covered by leaves or brush.
- The medallion will not be hidden on any steep hill or anywhere dangerous.
- Stay off PRIVATE PROPERTY!
- It costs $10.00 to register to win the whole cash prize. If you chose not to register you can still hunt but will only be awarded half the pot for finding the medallion, the rest of the money will be used in a future hunt.
- Finder keeps the medallion!
- You have until the release of clue 4 to register.
- There will be no critical clue this year.

Send registration money via PayPal to ssanftner88@yahoo.com. Or you can come to today's kickoff party at Shamrocks 995 7th st W from 2-4pm and pay me in person or make other arrangements before clue 4.

Good luck to everyone that decides to take on this quest!

It's hard to stop, coming over the top
What great help dynamic balance can bring.
It's hard to perceive, but how could one receive
A fried egg from a chicken wing?

The official meaning of the clue.

This is basically a golf clue. “Coming over the top”, “dynamic balance”, “fried egg”, and “chicken wing” are all golf terms. Como Park has a golf course. More specifically “coming over the top” and “chicken wing” are both errors in ones swing, while a fried egg is when your ball gets stuck in a bunker is resembles an egg. So one could very well receive a fried egg from a chicken wing.

To find the cache, arrows will point the way
Towards treasure that's sure to excite.
A straightforward hint, to help find the mint
There are stones near the treasure site.

The official meaning of the clue.

“Cache” hints that the medallion is hidden inside something. The Treasure Medallion was hidden along one of Como’s multi-purpose trails that all have arrows directing people in different directions. There was a big stone at marker #19 and a concrete slab near the Medallion. Also line #4 was pulled directly from the very first Winter Carnival treasure hunt at Como, when they hid the medallion very close to the Kilmer fireplace. If one knew their treasure history they could have been very near the medallion as it was not far from the fireplace.

If you didn't know it, a prolific poet
Could help you relax and repose.
Watch your luck increase, as you walk in peace
And listen to how my rhythm goes.

The official meaning of the clue.

The poet was Joyce Kilmer, The two memorials dedicated to Kilmer are near the treasure site. “Relax”, “repose”, and “peace” were all meant to hint at a very peaceful area as is the Woodland Classroom. “Listen to how my rhythm goes” translates to “oye COMO va mi ritmo” which is a song made by Tito Puente. An easy quick Google search of line 4 would have yielded this info.

Tis the season for that type of pleasure.
Although it is true, back then they did too

Need a better clue? Well who hears a who?!
You had better not be tardy to class.
Finding my spotter, will get you hotter
I've been keeping a keen eye on the stash.

The official meaning of the clue.

“Who hears a who?” is obviously taken straight from the epic Winter Carnival hunt of 2003 when they pulled a switch on hunters from Harriet to Como. “Being tardy to class” is a hint at the Outdoor Classroom. The “spotter” was a stump with an eye spray painted on it just south of the trolley bridge. The eye is looking into the woods and almost directly at the treasure.

Trees! Is the poem; now you know where to roam
Between the monuments treasure’s at stake.
56 years it ran, over that span
It transported people from lake to lake.

To the south is the goods: look to the woods
Please be mindful of the poem by Joyce.
Tween Kobe and Jordan, lays the fortune
Discover the treasure; now let’s rejoice!

Trees! Is the poem by Joyce Kilmer. The medallion was hidden between the two dedicated monuments of Kilmer. The treasure was hidden just south of the Harriet-Como old trolley line that ran for 56 years. In the woods south of the bridge, the treasure was placed between posts #24(KOBE) & #23(JORDAN).
