Here is an update on the current standings of the Park Pick Pool. This is what the scores would be based on your most recent guesses and if the medallion was found today. Let me know if you think I missed anything.
Sorry for not being around much so far. Life has been quite busy and I haven't even had a chance to think about the clues much until now. But I'm off work now for the weekend so I have some time now. For today's pick I think I am going to go all 10 on Phalen. I'm really liking Johnson Parkway (it's peachy!) and there are all of those floral streets near there. The whole MacGuffin and bluffin thing reminds me of the green doughnut incident from 2004 at Phalen. The old Gillette's children hospital could definitely be the sawbones and there is a tailor to be had there. Still lots of other possibilities but this is where I am placing my bet.
Clue #5
We will protect each clue from the GRU
Nyet hackers! Have you no shame?
They may fix our elections, but we'll spark insurrection,
If they try to interfere with our game
Clue #4
One patterned neat and trim, one salvaged life and limb
Did the two cutters who lived down the way.
Herringbones or sawbones?
You decide which will play.
Clue #3
This hunt’s guarantor settles that forevermore
Noodlers treasure noggins; keep that in mind.
So doff your warm cap, study dog-eared map
And genuflect in the presence of the find.
Clue #2
Though the times be quite peachy, we do so beseech ye,
To venture out of doors for a romp
As you traipse through the snow, your medallions aglow,
Careful of what flora you stomp
Clue #1
There’s just enough snow and temperatures low
To rouse us from our snoozing
And hide the MacGuffin, no we ain’t bluffin,
In a park of our very own choosing.
The Vikings are done, the Twins yet begun
What excuse do you have to dawdle?
Gather your kin, prepare for the win
And be sure to bring a hot bottle
As in the name of Schmidt and leading to the Schmidt Brewery area off of West 7th?Do we have a russian street name or a russian person park name near there?
Actually I think I captured the spirit of it, but wasn't correct. I've seen a copy of the clue as the actual paper has come out, but it hasn't appeared publicly yet. I wonder if it's a reference to the "hacking" scandal from 2012 and a hint towards Tony Schmidt? David B. Allison
Wow, great decipher, I think you did it spot on!Now, what in the world does it mean?Definitely Russian inferences here, and here we go with the History again....?
If hackers from the GRU will interfere with our clue We may our elections, try to protect Have they no shame? we’ll fix each game They spark insurrection, but you Nyet
Anyone have the book "The Street Where You Live: A Guide to the Place Names of St. Paul"?Gives you a bit of history of who these streets were named after. It might help. https://books.google.com/books?id=2TJIulWZTkUC&pg=PA190&dq=Johnson+parkway+namesake+st+paul+mn&hl=en&newbks=1&newbks_redir=0&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjv5rfe9pjnAhUJac0KHYY6Br8Q6AEwAXoECAIQAg#v=onepage&q=Johnson%20parkway%20namesake%20st%20paul%20mn&f=false
I can honestly fit all the clues into any park at this time. I'm thinking a park near 2 "famous" doctors. Where they lived, maybe where they worked. And by famous, I mean we have to do our research to find them. Not the Mayo family.
The Pioneer Press Treasure Hunt is part of the St. Paul Winter Carnival every year. While the prize can only go to one winner, The Allison Wonderland is dedicated to the community spirit of treasure hunting. Here, not only will you find out about the Pre-Dig Gig, the Rehash Bash, and various other social events, but we also discuss the clues here in a team effort to decipher them (albeit not always successfully). This is a place to discuss ideas respectfully, report on what's happening "on the ground", and provide each other with useful information. This is a public group so expect that anything posted will be seen by everyone.
