Maybe it is a square medallion wedged in a round lake. I do think this clue is trying to tell us that the medallion is secured to something to make sure it

It is a stretch, but Robert Burns is Scottish, and it sounds like a Scottish saying. I no longer think Highland, but Highland is Scottish.
