Re: 2022 Clue #7

Three different people have stopped me at Silverwood to ask what is going on.  Surprisingly enough, all three reacted happily to my explanation rather than intruded upon by us treasure seekers.  They seemed prideful that "their park" was chosen and that we were led there by the clues.  I must be very approachable and non-threatening even with a sharp garden tool in hand...

Has anyone looked at Treasure Island park? There's a Marathon gas station called Lucky's station #6, lots of holy surroundings, and Warick the street turns up a lot of music hits. Plus the Nile street runs nearby. Good luck!

I'm helpless at anagrams -

Its dug to hell but something did intrigue me, "treasure waits so alone" - other than perhaps being a reference to Silver, and Silverwood being the only Ramsey County park in the three rivers system, perhaps there something more physical?

When someone arrived at the camp they arrived at an entrance in the NW part of what is now the park that does not exist any longer. It was slightly east of where 30th intersects with county rd E and is marked by the black chain fence being a gate, rather than a fence now. Heres a higher res aerial from 2006, though I assure the entrance is visible on aerials going back

Here is what it looks like now

and here is what the entrance looked like shortly after the purchase by the park district in 2007

You'll notice some cool stone pillars, and then some taller stone pillars further inside./ the lower stone pillars at the fore, seem to have been part of a fence system that is no longer there, here's a historical image of what I believe were the taller pillars - taken in the 20's(?)

The pillars are all gone it seems, save for one at the corner of Stinson and County Road E - stands alone? I was there but bupkis so far...

In this case I don't think it matters because no one knows what the heck it means anyway. Plus, Clue 9 is historically both hard to make sense of and totally useless.

As an FYI, I don't think it's a good idea to copy the post from a private group and post it to another group. They tend to get testy about that. I think it's ok if it was posted on the PP forum or if you yourself have the paper.

Hey Nate,

I've been looking around the St. Paul parks, specifically downtown. There's plenty of art, rhymes, sculptures, elevation, orange cones, charity shelters, and sports among others things that match the clues. This is only my 4th hunt, so still green. Do we know if the MN state fairgrounds are in play? Odd question, I know, but the Pioneer Press holds a summer hunt. Hence the reference to the misprint of our buttons. Good luck!

Christine they ran out of maps yesterday or today. They had quite a few printed up for regular park visitors on Friday. The Silverwood employees were really surprised when all these hunters started overtaking the park. There was one guy working the cafe on Friday. He got two more employees for the weekend to help him out. They were overwhelmed!

Wow! Great instincts! I wish I knew they had maps inside. I wonder if the staff knew ahead of time?

David, the only reason I got to Silverwwood by Friday is because I ran across an old photo of the Salvation Army Fresh Air Camp gate written on the top of the gate. The word Fresh screamed out at me, so it was the main reason I went there besides being on a border. Than their maps next to the cafe showed the bathing trail when I got there. The old name had me convinced.

Haha I was thinking it just means to avoid the sculptures at the park, but you never know!

If it's NOT at Silverwood then I am DONE with this event in perpetuity.  I'll direct my attention instead to area Scavenger Hunts before, after & during the SPWC.  At least I know that CW won't outright lie to the participants.  ;-)
