Gene Wetch, 42, was waiting on a call last week, when he looked under a picnic table in the Wayside rest area along Highway 21 in Jordan and found an unexpected item wrapped in paper and plastic near the leg of the table.
A Heimatfest medallion.
The non-Jordan resident didn’t know at first what it was. So he went swimming in Mill Pond and later flipped over the coin to see “Jordan” carved into the back. So he called up the city to let them know he found it.
The city is now holding onto it for safekeeping until it gets everything in order — one of the organizers is currently on vacation. The first clue was sent out last week and the city added it was a quick find.
The reward is $75 in “Jordan dollars” to be spent anywhere in Jordan. Wetch is a handyman and drives through the city often to get to clients so he plans to spend it on gas. He guessed it would pay for about two tanks of gas for his van.
Wetch has had quite the week — he celebrated his birthday on Aug. 3, started a started a new job Wednesday in Anoka at Mister Car Wash and now the medallion.
Now he’s just waiting on the call to pick it up from the city soon.
